Description

The Sony FE 24-50mm f/2.8 is a compact zoom lens for your Sony mirrorless camera with full-frame sensor. It has a zoom range of 24-50mm, so it's suitable for various types of photo and videography. Bring it on a trip and take architecture and portrait photos. At the shortest focal length of 24mm, you can capture the entire area. You can do this for a video, for example. The lens has a fixed aperture of f/2.8. When you zoom in with the lens, the light intensity remains the same. As a result, you can even take bright photos with a soft bokeh in the dark. Thanks to the 19cm minimum focal distance, you can easily take close-ups of your subject. You can sharply capture the details of a flower, for example.

Nice sharp photos with constant aperture 2.8

  • less noise in dark situations
  • constant 2.8mm aperture
  • another larger lens

I was allowed to test the Sony lens FE 24-50mm f/2.8. I have a Sony system camera and I use a lens of 18-200mm (3.5-6.3) and a prime lens 50mm, 1.8f. This lens may have seemed like a nice addition to me, due to the constant 2.8mm aperture. What strikes me and is a big plus is that the lens provides sharp photos, and it is clear that it has a nice bokeh effect (depth of field) in the images and also less noise in the photos in dark situations. If I compare it with the lens I already have (18-200mm), it obviously does not replace this lens, because it has a maximum zoom range of 50mm, and I also regularly want to be able to zoom in further when photographing (for example when photographing animals while traveling). . I also notice that it does not take sharper photos than the 50mm prime lens that I have. A negative for me is also the high purchase price. I have to ask myself if I want to lug around three lenses. But that is a luxury problem.

Over the past few weeks I've had the chance to extensively test the Sony FE 24-50mm F2.8 G lens, and I have to say that I'm impressed with its performance. Compact/light: One of the first things I noticed when holding this lens was its remarkable compactness and lightness. It feels like you're holding a premium piece of technology, but without the weight you'd normally expect with such performance. Bokeh: The bokeh effect this lens produces is simply beautiful. It adds a professional touch to any shot, making your subject really stand out. It's the perfect way to add a touch of creativity to your photography, without compromising the overall quality of your images. Autofocus: As for autofocus, this lens certainly doesn't disappoint. Fast, accurate and virtually silent, it makes capturing sharp images a breeze. Whether you're photographing fast-moving subjects or capturing still scenes, you'll always get the perfect shot with this lens. Close-up performance: I've used the Sony FE 24-50mm F2.8 G lens mainly for close-up portrait photography, and I have to say I'm impressed with its performance in this area. Every detail is captured with astonishing sharpness, bringing my photos to a new level of realism. Fixed aperture: Another advantage of the Sony FE 24-50mm F2.8 G lens is the fixed aperture of f/2.8. This ensures consistent exposure across the entire zoom range, so you don't have to compromise on image quality. Whether you zoom in or zoom out, the lens consistently performs at its best.

Super fast, nice lens with all the bells and whistles

  • Super sharp (sometimes almost too)
  • Very compact and light
  • Auto focus itself with less light
  • No need for an aperture ring on the lens for me

Very nice and solidly built lens, the difference with my other lenses is clearly noticeable. A large part of the body is plastic but feels very sturdy, and the rubber grip on the focus ring provides a nice hold. The lens has 3 rings for autofocus, aperture and zoom. They all have a good grip and turn very smoothly with just enough resistance to give you a lot of control. The aperture ring has clicks on each step. These can also be disabled (very useful for video). I am used to operating everything on my camera body, so I mainly left it on auto. The click to get it out of there has enough resistance that it doesn't just happen by accident. One of the highlights of this lens is the autofocus. The subject is quickly found and accurately focused, even in low light. In addition, the autofocus operates whisper-quiet, which is useful when photographing events or in quiet environments. The zoom behavior of the lens is unusual but interesting. When zooming out, the lens becomes longer. The lens is therefore standard (at the shortest how you probably store it) so 50mm. As someone who shoots a lot at 50mm, I see this as an advantage. After some getting used to this feels natural. The sharpness of the photos is impressive. The lens continues to capture details both in the center and at the edges of the image. * lens was made available for this review, but no influence was exerted on this review
