Description

The Sony A7C Silver + Sony 28-60mm f/4-5.6 is a light and compact full frame mirrorless camera for advanced and professional photographers and videographers who travel frequently. With the versatile 28-60mm lens, you can photograph landscapes, street scenes, and portraits, among other things. The light-sensitive 24.2-megapixel full frame image sensor ensures detailed images. Aside from that, you can also record sharp and stable videos in 4K 30 fps. Thanks to the integrated image stabilization, you can make stable hand-held videos. The rotatable touch screen lets you photograph from difficult angles or record yourself while you're vlogging.

Autofocus

The camera has a large full frame sensor with 693 phase detection autofocus points that cover 93% of the entire screen. This way, you can easily and accurate focus on any part of the image. Quickly capture moments of action with 10 images per second. Thanks to the 4D-Focus, you can focus on moving objects fast. The camera follows the object and predicts the next action. With the Realtime Eye autofocus, the camera automatically focuses on the eyes of both humans and animals. Ideal for portrait photographers, or if you want to take photos of your pets.

4K video

With the A7C, you can record videos in 4K resolution. In this resolution, you record with 30 frames per second. Thanks to the full-pixel readout without pixel binning, you can use oversampling to reach a video quality that translates to a 6K image quality. This way, the A7C ensures sharp and clear videos.

Image stabilization

The A7C has integrated image stabilization that corrects up to 5 stops. This reduces motion blur. You can also take your photos hand-held for longer in twilight or dark locations. In addition, the stabilization ensures stable vlogs and fluid video recordings.

Our expert review

'C' stands for compact

  • Very compact and easy to carry
  • Built-in image stabilization ensures sharp handheld photos
  • Tracking autofocus follows your subject smoothly
  • Grip not ergonomic for large hands

Sony has succeeded in designing the most compact full-frame camera with built-in image stabilization. The size is special and not heavy when shooting. The built-in image stabilization ensures sharp handheld photos, even with slow shutter speeds. This camera is very suitable for capturing sports and action. You can easily shoot many photos in succession with fast and accurate autofocus. Compact design with a drawback The grip of the camera is a bit disappointing as soon as I hold it. The design is very compact, a little too compact in my opinion. Sony has done their best to make the camera as small as possible, which makes the design not ergonomic for me. My hand fits around the grip with my fingers and knuckles quickly hitting the lens. Thanks to its relatively low weight, I can take the camera with me everywhere. The body with extendable 28-60mm kit lens is even so compact that this combination fits in my large winter jacket pocket. So you don't immediately need a camera bag to go out with this kit. This is the decision you have to make. Do you go for a compact body or do you prefer a good grip? Built-in image stabilization While shooting, I notice that the camera is stable. The built-in image stabilization compensates for my shakes and movements as soon as I focus on my subject. The image is free of shocks and vibrations in one go. As a result, I shoot with slower shutter speeds and I don't need a tripod. Without a gimbal, I can easily record videos and vlogs by hand. Because I shoot with slow shutter speeds, I keep my ISO values relatively low, the stabilization works excellent. Tracking autofocus The camera has 693 phase-detection autofocus points that cover almost the entire screen. This allows me to focus easily and accurately on every point of the image. Thanks to the 4D-Focus, the camera detects my subject and even predicts the next action. This helps when I'm shooting athletes and action moments. Thanks to the Realtime Eye autofocus, the camera also automatically focuses on the eyes of both people and animals. This is very fast and useful when I'm taking portraits or capturing animals. 180 degree rotatable screen The 180-degree rotatable screen ensures that I photograph from difficult points of view. Low to the ground for beautiful landscapes or above my head to, for example, stand out above the audience. I also find the touch screen very useful, because with one tap on the screen I choose a focus point. I simply turn the screen towards me for vlogs and selfies.

A week ago I received the camera. When unboxing, the camera is immediately visible. The top is silver for me. In addition, the top was quite flat, which also contributes to the retro look of the camera. I mainly use the screen to control the cam, but in general it is also easy for me to use the evf. However, with the a7c, this is something that has not worked well until now. I may still have to get used to the system because of the short duration that I now have it at home. The screen is very nice, limited touch functionality + tilt and turn. This ensures that you can also easily film yourself, for example. The camera is fairly compact. However, it is ergonomically not optimal for my size hands. In a positive way, the camera doesn't need much more than it needs. There are no custom buttons, but you can, for example, set up the current button to your liking. It does take a little more time than when you do have these buttons because you now change the default buttons that you might want to use to something that you use more often. There is a separate button for film and photo. The kit lens of 28-60 fe4-5.6. Definitely fits the camera well. Of course, that also depends on your usage. But this one is well suited for a beginner/everyday use. Not too large a zoom, but a reasonably spacious image that is sufficiently sharp and with a pleasant weight and size. I have mainly used the camera on the highest setting 4k 25p 100 and I am very satisfied with this. Focusing the camera is easy as I have set it. You can also adjust this yourself. I haven't tested the focusing over the entire area of the sensor yet, but in the center it responds faster than I expected. It reacts quickly enough to be able to photograph my playing toddlers sharply. The stabilization was fine. The camera has more in it than I have been able to experience well so far, but so far I am well impressed. With the note of the evf.
