Pros and cons

According to our mirrorless camera expert

  • Thanks to the high ISO value and noise reduction, you can take detailed photos with little noise in low light.
  • In Real Time Eye AF mode, the camera automatically focuses on your model's eyes.
  • With the Interval Shooting function, you can record timelapses of things like sunsets.
  • You can't fully tilt the screen forwards for vlogs and selfies.
  • This camera isn't suitable for beginners because of the complexity of the menu and controls.

Description

The Sony A7 III is a versatile camera for enthusiastic photographers and videographers. It has a light-sensitive CMOS full-frame image sensor. This makes it possible to take clear and sharp photos in low light. Thanks to the image stabilization and noise reduction, your photos have little noise.

Photographing with noise reduction in low light

You can expand the maximum ISO value of the A7 III to 204,8000. This ensures detailed photos in low light. The area-specific noise reduction technology prevent a grainy image at a high ISO value.

Focus

With the A7 III, you can focus with 693 Phase Detection AF points. This points cover 93% of the screen, so you can focus accurately. If the subject moves, the camera continues to focus on it. Turn on Real Time Eye AF for automatic focus on your model's eye. When you press the shutter release button half down, the camera immediately focuses on the eyes. That's useful for portrait photography.

Image stabilization

The image stabilization reduces the motion blur up to 5 stops. That way, you can use longer shutter speeds when you take photos manually. This is useful in situations with little light. If you record with the camera, image stabilization ensures stable videos.

Video

You can record razor-sharp videos in 4K resolution at 30 fps. If you'd rather make slow motion videos, record in Full HD at 120 fps. That way, you can make smooth slow motion videos. With the Interval Shooting function, you can record timelapses. Record a sunrise or sunset this way, for example.

Still a beast in 2020!

  • Recording quality
  • Very strong in low light conditions
  • More compact than DSLR camera
  • Compared to Canon, the menus are less user-friendly

Coming from a Canon 70d DSLR camera, this mirrorless is a big step forward! Even if you buy this in 2020, it will certainly still be relevant at least for a few more years, at least for the average hybrid user. Mirrorless cameras are the future!
