Pros and cons

According to our IP camera expert

  • The IP camera turns 360 degrees, so you can keep an eye on every corner of the room.
  • Thanks to 3K resolution, the image stays sharp when you zoom in to details.
  • You can save the footage on an SD card, so you don't need a subscription for cloud storage.
  • Because the camera is corded, you have to set it up near a socket.
  • You need a good WiFi signal in the spot where you mount the camera.

Description

With the TP-Link Tapo C230, you know exactly what's going on at home. Via the Tapo app on your smartphone, you can turn the IP camera 360 degrees and tilt it 114 degrees up and down. This way, you can keep an eye on a whole room with one camera in razor-sharp 3K resolution. Because the camera recognizes the sound of a crying baby, you can also use it as a baby monitor. Thanks to the built-in microphone, you can calm your baby down remotely and keep an eye on them. The camera turns automatically with movement and recognizes people, animals, and vehicles. You can store images on an SD card. You don't need an extra cloud subscription for this.

good, but only as a simple camera

  • Quick installation
  • well understand how to use
  • suffices as a "simple" camera
  • some services require a subscription. this is not mentioned

camera is good to use as a simple silent camera. You have to fix the image once, the camera does not move (motion detection). this requires a subscription.

Terrible product

  • High resolution
  • night vision
  • Paying most features

Well, what can be said about it... Sharp image and that's the positive thing. Otherwise a terrible product! After installing (which is incredibly lax) I looked at how I could use the functions I bought the camera for... Nope, most of what this camera can do is behind a monthly subscription. What a ridiculous way to sell your product saying what it can do and then when you've already spent money on it they come and ask for even more money. Then using the app, feels like an app from 10 years ago, loading screen every time and playback stops after 20 seconds every time. Also choosing a time moment is with a scroll function that is just way too small, just like setting time blocks. The microphone also sounds like an average karaoke toy set that comes through shrilly on all sides. The motion detection is really ridiculous, one moment the camera sees a speck of dust as motion and the next moment it doesn't see someone walking in front of the camera as motion. Very disappointed in this product, I already had to reset it because it suddenly wouldn't record anything after 3 days.

Excellent camera with great options for little money

  • easy to install and use
  • can also be mounted on the wall or ceiling (included)
  • handy 2-way functions (kind of baby monitor function)
  • I can't set schedules when the camera is allowed on/off

I was curious what my cat (10 months old animal) actually did at night (damn little I know now). And nice to keep an eye on the house when I'm not there.
