I tried both options because I was very curious if the gel pad would damage the paint layer. This was not the case and the pins do not leave any visible holes. Sometimes difficult to remove from the wall The gel pad is very strong, so you have to pull the device hard to get it off the wall. I was afraid to break the device, but luckily it can take a beating. After a few hard pulls, I got it off the wall.
