Description

The Fujifilm X100V Silver is a 26.1-megapixel compact camera for street and reportage photographers, from advanced to expert. In addition, you can record detailed 4K videos with it. The X100V has a fixed 23mm lens with a maximum aperture of f/2.0. Combined with the relatively large APS-C sensor, this makes the camera very light-sensitive. With the aperture ring, dials, and buttons, the design looks a lot like that of an old-fashioned analogue camera.

Precise focus

The camera has 425 autofocus points spread out over nearly the entire field of vision. This ensures a fast and precise focus from point to point. Thanks to the integrated face and eye detection, the camera automatically focuses on the face or the eyes. This way, you don't have to move the autofocus point yourself with the joystick while you photograph your model.

Light-sensitive lens

Thanks to the crop factor of 1.5x, the fixed 23mm lens corresponds with a focal length of 35mm. This is ideal for street and reportage photography. With the maximum aperture of f/2.0, you can create a soft background blur. This way, the subject really stand out from the background. The lens has a built-in ND filter of 4 stops, which lets you photograph in broad daylight with f/2.0 if the fastest shutter speed of the camera isn't enough. Thanks to the APS-C sensor and a good noise reduction with high ISO values, the X100V is also suitable for darker situations.

Leaf shutter

The X100V uses a leaf shutter. The advantage of a leaf shutter is that it's built into the lens, so the camera retains its compact size. A leaf shutter is also very silent in use, so you won't be as noticeable during street photography. In addition, it provides a higher flash sync speed. This way, you can use a flash with the fastest shutter speed, so you can block out the sun entirely on a sunny day and get good lighting for your model.

Super device

  • Excellent photo quality (DSLR quality)
  • Compact yet robust
  • Tiltable touchscreen
  • No IBIS (in body stabilization)

The best camera is the one you always have with you. After years of lugging around with a heavy Canon 550D (which is a great camera by the way!) + lenses, I was looking for a more compact, lighter camera to always have with me. And this Fujifilm X100v satisfies that perfectly, without sacrificing image quality. The camera has a fixed lens with a fixed focal length of 23 mm and a bright F/2.0 lens. You can shoot in JPEG as well as RAW (or a combination of the 2), but the JPEGs themselves are beautiful and the Fujifilm film simulations are top notch. There is a very extensive menu to set up (320-page manual included), but you have the option to set your aperture, ISO, shutter speed and exposure compensation with the control buttons on the camera itself, so you can enjoy shooting without to browse the menu. This camera has no IBIS (in body stabilization) and is therefore not very suitable for video recordings and you also have to be careful in low-light situations (camera shake), although you can always adjust your ISO. So a minimum of knowledge of the relationship between aperture, shutter speed and ISO is ideal, but I think even beginners can get the hang of the camera while doing it. The camera also has a tilting touchscreen, which is especially useful for taking photos from waist height or below. It is above all a pleasure to shoot with and that is ultimately what is most important to me. The Fujifilm X100v is also weatherproof, but only fully weatherproof if you also use the optional AR-X100 adapter ring and PRF-49 protection filter! (the lens itself is not standard weatherproof as it moves a bit when focusing) By using this weatherproof kit (adapter ring + protection filter), the supplied lens cap no longer fits, but I solved this by using the Fujifilm FLCP-49 lens cap (49mm) that fits perfectly on the protection filter. Furthermore, a battery charger is missing. Charging is via USB. This is inconvenient if you want to charge a second battery in the meantime. (again, you can still purchase a separate battery charger to remedy this). In any case, the camera is highly recommended!
