Description

The Synology DS216play is powerful enough to transcode real-time HD-videos. Besides backing up and sharing files in the network, this NAS's optimized to stream videos. Thanks to the processor, with its integrated video encoder, the Synology DS216play can convert video files and then send them in a suitable format (via DLNA) to your smart TV, Chromecast, tablet, and smartphone. In sleep mode, the NAS uses 6.83W and is fitted with a USB 2.0 and 3.0 port.

- Low energy consumption
- Easy to understand operating system
- Lots of explanation tips to find from other people
- The audio app for Android does not work optimally under marsmellow. Hope and trust that they will come with good updates.

It is a nice quiet device that is easy to set up for all documents for you and your partner (also to be protected per folder, if you know what I mean). So top notch! Something for everyone!

The DS216play leaves a lot to be desired as a media streamer: there is no native support for DTS audio (a longstanding licensing issue) and Plex does not support transcoding on this NAS, resulting in constant error messages when playing HD video files with subtitles ("this server is not powerful enough to convert video"). Therefore, not recommended as a central hub for HD video streams.

Wow, a piece of cake to be fully up and running within 15 mins. The DS is fast, easy and with a fast internet connection you will also notice on your mobile or elsewhere via a browser that you can access all your files super fast, much easier than via Google Drive or those kinds of services. For some apps you do need some knowledge to be able to make good use of them, but luckily you can find them all over the internet.
