According to our camera lens expert
This Nikon AF-S 105mm f / 2.8G ED IF VR Micro lens is equipped with Vibration Reduction II (VR II) for better performance thanks to image stabilization. With VR II, you can shoot freehand with shutter speeds that are up to 4 stops longer. Being extremely precise, fast, and quiet autofocus is the task of the exclusive Nikon SWM (Silent Wave Motor). The ED glass lens element guarantees minimal chromatic aberrations. This piece of glass in combination with the Nano Crystal Coat lens coating provides beautiful color reproduction, high sharpness, and minimal flares. Take matters into your own hand with the manual focus mode or let the lens determine the best settings with autofocus.

This lens is one of the best lenses in this segment. Nowadays "everyone" wants zoom lenses, but the Nikor 105mm (160mm on APC) outclasses many others in sharpness, bokeh and durability. And the lens is certainly not only suitable for macro use (Nikon calls it 'micro'). You can get very creative with selective depth of field. The lens has few aberrations and is already at its best at f4. Manual focus is preferable in difficult conditions (moving flowers in the open air) and works very easily and precisely. The VR allows you to shoot handheld for longer in low light, but I turn it off because I usually shoot on a tripod. Cons: weight and price. Keep in mind, however, that a zoom lens with the same qualities costs much more. Tested on Nikon D200 and D300.

Coolblue's service also deserves a word of thanks. The lens was shipped quickly and securely packaged. And when you open the packaging of the Nikon AF-S 105 mm f/2.8G ED IF VR Micro, you notice that it is quality. You get the very sturdy lens with lens hood. But also a nice sturdy bag for your lens. Very easy and convenient to safely store your lens when you change lenses. As I mentioned above, the lens is very solidly built. Anyone who owns a 24-70 mm f/2.8 ED can roughly imagine how the Nikon AF-S 105 mm f/2.8G ED IF VR Micro is built. The lens hood is also very sturdy and is also very useful for protecting your lens. But also very useful for preventing sun rays directly into the lens. The possibilities of this lens are as much as you want. This is mainly for Marco photography. But also portrait photos come into the picture very nicely. With this lens you can beautifully capture the smallest details. Also Product Photography and Car Photography is ideal for this lens. I own a Nikon D800, this Full Frame SLR camera has about 36.4 megapixels. This is a very high number for such cameras. And so you must have very good glass (lens). You certainly won't go wrong with this lens. Whether you own a Nikon D4/D800, or a Nikon D7100/D5200/D3200. With all these cameras, this lens will get the maximum sharpness that these cameras have to offer. But the bokeh is also great with this lens. The lens has VR II, which can be very useful if you don't want to walk around with a tripod all the time. This allows you to deliver a sharp image in a somewhat slower shutter speed. The lens also has a Nano coating, which ensures better color reproduction. The Silent Wave Motor is also present. This ensures that you can focus quickly and also that it is not noisy. You also have a number of options for focusing. You can do this automatically or manually. You have an extra function for the Automatic mode. This way you have a Full or Limited switch on the lens. At Full, the lens will use the full focus ring to choose the correct sharpness. So this is slightly slower. With Limited, the lens will use a certain distance from the focus ring. And will focus a little faster. My conclusion is that this lens is a top purchase for anyone who would like to engage in macro photography. But other types of photography are also perfectly possible. The lens provides a nice sharpness that you want. In addition, you get very nice bokeh. And with the newer Nikon SLRs such as Nikon D3200, etc.. which have a 24 megapixel sensor (you can get just a little more) very nice details from your photos. So highly recommended!

After having had the 85mm macro lens from Nikon almost continuously on my D7000 for 2 years, I replaced it with the 105mm a few months ago. To be honest, this 105 mm is not really sharper than the 85 mm, but on points such as vignetting and bokeh it is really a step ahead. The lens is super solid, is nice and heavy, which I think is an advantage because it prevents motion blur because you have to hold it well. In terms of purchase, it is an expensive lens, especially if you are not considering a full-frame camera (my reason for switching), then the 85mm on a DX camera is almost as good, but much cheaper. I have recently started using the lens with intermediate rings between lens and body and that opens up a new world, because the magnification is even greater, you can really observe the facets of the insect eyes.
