Tasty beast!
- great hand-fit, even with a heavy lens
- improved speed compared to Mark II
- very extensive autofocus
- the price is a bit outside the size of many amateurs

According to our SLR camera expert
Canon surprises time and time again in presenting new high-end SLRs and this time's no different with the EOS 5D Mark III. The most striking feature of this 5D is the renewed (full-frame) autofocus system, which could first be seen in the 1D X. This gives you 61 focal points and 41 cross-type points, which includes a significantly larger portion of your image in the focus. As a result, it's much more usable for sports photography and filming than its predecessors, as it sharply focuses everything within your image effortlessly.
The included DIGIC 5+ processor is a considerable improvement when we compare this Mark III to the 5D Mark II. It's 17 times more powerful than the DIGIC 4 processor and ensures sublime data processing. The camera uses this for continuous photography, renewed HDR modes, various forms of film-image compression, support for UDMA 7 Compact Flash, Scene Intelligent Auto mode, in-camera RAW processing, and a review mode in which you can compare two images side-by-side on your 3.2-inch screen. The number of memory slots has been increased to 2, which allows you to write on Compact Flash and SD (or SDHD or SDXC) at the same time. For example, you can write in full resolution to one card, and in reduced resolution to the other card.
The 5D Mark III has a renewed, gigantic CMOS sensor with 22.3 megapixel on full frame. A micro-lens design, a new photodiode design, and improved noise suppression make this sensor more sensitive and produce less noise. Thanks to these features and an 8-channel reading system from the sensor to the processor, a constant speed of 6fps is achieved, allowing you to make better videos.
Please note! The Canon EOS 5D Mark III is currently delivered with a Dutch manual on CD-ROM. You can also download the Dutch manual here.

After working with the Mark II for a while I was kind of disappointed with the autofocus, my good old 7D did a much better job in my opinion. After a lot of numbers (the Mark III is just expensive) and some unfortunate misunderstandings at the digicam shop, I took the step and what a world of difference! The autofocus is fast and correct, the many setting options still have to be tested, but you notice the difference from the first shot, this is really what I was looking for, with a few good lenses you can't be beat! In terms of image quality nothing but good, when I thought that the Mark II couldn't get any better I was thoroughly wrong, my first test shots proved that Canon is not at the end of its range yet, especially in the dark areas I sometimes win more than a full stop. It does require a bit more work to understand the extensive menu structure, but once you know your way around, that's not too bad. You just get the feeling like with Lightroom, here too the producer has taken the wishes of the users into account, the Mark III is a real tool in the hands of the photographer, once you get that animal tamed, you can only use it to enjoy!

I have had this very refined camera for a few days now. The Mark III is an improvement of the Mark II in almost all areas. The most striking, however, are: the brand new autofocus system, with significant improvements in capabilities as well as sensitivity of the autofocus points (the five in the middle are also diagonally oriented at f2.8, with many lenses) this gives very fast results. Also the combination of the new sensor, in conjunction with the digic5+, gives an ISO range of 50 to 25600, a gain of 3 f-stops compared to the Mark II (where noise became noticeable above 3200). Furthermore, you can manually set the ISO even higher to 102400. In addition, there is now a dedicated button for live view or filming and other improvements to the exterior of the camera. The menu has also been designed to be more user-friendly. The bottom line is that in my opinion the Mark III is a very thorough improvement in all areas compared to the Mark II.

well I call this my beast. After 5 years of shooting with the Canon EOS 7D, I was in need of renewal and decided to purchase another camera. After a lot of reading and searching and especially a lot of doubt between the new Canon EOS 7D mark 2 or the Canon EOS 5D mark III, I opted for the latter and wow. I have not regretted that for a moment. I was already very satisfied with the 7D but the 5D mark III cannot be compared and is head and shoulders above in all areas... The big difference is the speed of shooting where the 7D takes more photos per second but That's something I've never used and don't need now. More important is the quality of the photos,... the sharpness, color contrast and everything you can think of is so much better. The nice thing is that the ease of use has remained and there is little difference with the 7D, which is handy; Actually, I only have one word for this device; SUBLIME and I think this is a beast of a device... my pet
