What am I not insured for with a Backup Plan?
Among other things, you're not insured for:
- Manufacturing errors that fall under the warranty. We'll repair those free of charge and you don't need an insurance for that.
- Damage that doesn't have any consequences for the operation of the insured device, like dents, scratches, and damage to the finish.
- Damage to or malfunctions of the insured device that can be fixed by cleaning, like accumulated dust and obstructions.
- Damage to hardware that was built in later on, or newly bought hardware that's no longer in its original state.
- Consequential loss: damage not directly suffered by the equipment. For example, if your washing machine breaks and water that leaks out damages your floor. This damage isn't covered by the insurance. You can use your home or household insurance for this.
- Damage by unintentional loss, like forgetting or letting the insured device lie around.

What am I insured for with a Backup Plan?
We offer various Backup Plans per product. You can find which Backup Plans are available and what's covered exactly on the product page of the product.
Fall damage, impact damage, or water damage
Have fall damage or impact damage, or was your product damaged due to contact with a liquid? Repair your product via Coolblue. The costs are compensated by the insurance. You only have to pay your deductible.
Manufacturer's errors outside of the warranty
If your product doesn't work anymore and it doesn't fall under the standard warranty or your warranty has expired, the repair costs are compensated by this insurance. You only have to pay your deductible.
Theft
Was your product stolen and do you have an insurance with theft coverage? Report the theft to the police within 48 hours and email the police report to diefstal@coolblue.nl. You'll then receive the current retail price of the same or a similar replacement product in CoolblueCredit, with your deductible deducted. You can then just pick out a new product. Car theft is also covered if there are break-in marks on the car and your stuff wasn't in sight.
Total loss
Something is a total loss when the insured product is so broken it can't be repaired anymore, or if the repair costs more than buying a new product. You'll then receive the current retail price of the same or a similar replacement product in CoolblueCredit, with your deductible deducted. You can then just pick out a new product.
Unintentional misuse
Even damage to your product due to an accident is covered. This damage is caused by actions you've accidentally done wrong. Think of a bra wire that got stuck in the washing machine or clothes that were too sandy or muddy being put into the washing machine.
Research and call-out costs
If you have a Backup Plan for white goods and a technician has to come to your home for a repair, call-out costs will be charged. There are also costs associated with determining the defect, also known as research costs. Both of these fees are covered by this insurance.
You can find more information on the Backup Plans on this page.
Does the insurance also cover damage abroad?
Yes. Damages that occur abroad are covered by the insurance.
Can I also insure a product for business use against damage?
In the case of computer equipment (laptops and tablets) and mobile phones, damage during business use is covered. In the case of other products, damage, loss, and/or theft during business use isn't covered.
How high is my premium?
The amount of your premium depends on the type of product and the purchase value. You can find the exact premiums on the product page of your desired purchase.
When will the premium be debited?
The first payment of a monthly-cancellable Backup Plan will be debited a couple of days after your purchase. After that, we'll debit the amount on a monthly basis. You'll pay for the premium of your insurance monthly in advance via direct debit. The premium for a Backup Plan with a fixed term is paid directly at purchase.
Can you change your Backup Plan type and term?
No. Unfortunately, you can't.
When does your insurance expire?
A Backup Plan with a one-time payment has a fixed term that's specified on your policy document. For monthly insurances, there's no minimum duration. You can cancel the insurance the first 30 days. After 30 days, you can cancel the insurance every month with a 7-day cancelation period. The maximum duration is 36 months. We do this to prevent you from having a active insurance for a long time unintentionally.
When is my product insured?
Your coverage starts from the moment you've payed your premium. With a one-time insurance, you pay your premium together with the insured product. The coverage will start right away.
This works a bit differently with a monthly insurance, because you won't pay the first premium when you pay for the product. For monthly payments, the coverage starts right after you've payed the first premium. This happens within 3 working days.
Can you change the term of your insurance?
No. Unfortunately, you can't.
How does the premium payment work?
The agreed premium for a Backup Plan with a fixed term has to be paid for when entering into the insurance agreement. You can pay in cash or electronically. You pay the monthly premium of your monthly cancelable Backup Plan via direct debit 1 month in advance. The first premium payment will be debited within 7 days from the bank account you've provided. If the payment unsuccessful, we'll send you a payment reminder.
When does my insurance expire?
After the specified term on the policy document expires, in case of non-payment or theft, or if a repair isn't possible given the remaining value of your product.
