What's WiFi 6E and what can you use it for?
Higher speed
With WiFi 6E, you'll get an extra frequency band. This is the 6GHz band. It works in addition to the existing bands, so it's like an extra lane. Only new devices will use this band. Thanks to this, you'll experience less interference from old devices or the WiFi connection of your neighbors. This makes your WiFi connection faster. How much faster it is exactly depends on your living situation.
More capacity
Thanks to the extra frequency band, you can connect more devices without causing instability. This was already a strong characteristic of WiFi 6, but WiFi 6E enhances this. With the 3rd or 4th frequency band, you'll have more room. It can handle more traffic, without being slowed down. With WiFi 6E, you can connect tens to hundreds of devices at the same time. If you have a lot of smart home devices in a busy household, this is a good choice.
Better security
Many older WiFi routers and mesh systems use WPA2 security. This standard can be hacked with minimum effort, so it's less safe. Routers with WiFi 6E only use WPA3 security by default. Thanks to this, unwanted guests can't just randomly log in to your WiFi network. Your network remains safe thanks to this, with a smaller chance for hackers.
Which devices work with WiFi 6E?
At the moment, devices don't indicate whether they support WiFi 6E themselves. That's why you should look up the model number of your device via a search engine. With laptops, desktops, and some smartphones, you can see whether your device supports WiFi 6E. Devices from before 2019 never support WiFi 6E.
What's WiFi 7?
With WiFi 7, you can go online as quickly as possible with all your devices without your WiFi slowing down. WiFi 7 is much faster than WiFi 6 and 6E. The new standard has a maximum speed of 46Gbps total. That way, these new routers can fully use the new 6GHz band. At this time, only some smartphones support WiFi 7. With WiFi 7, you're prepared for the future though.
