What's Athom Homey and what can you do with it?

The Athom Homey is a smart home hub that you can connect your smart devices to. Devices from different brands can work together via the Homey. This means that you can control a lot of products from 1 app with the hub. In this article, we'll tell you more on Homey and what you can use it for.

How does Homey work?

Homey connects smart devices to each other. You can choose from more than 50,000 devices from over 1000 different brands. You can recognize suitable devices by the 'Talks with Homey' label. Homey uses various ways of communication like Matter and Thread, for example. This way, you can connect the Homey to more different devices than with other smart hubs. The hub stores your data locally and not on a server. This means you don't need a subscription and your smart home is secured better.

Install the Homey

You can easily install the Athom Homey. Plug it into the socket and connect the USB cable to the smart hub. The Homey has an LED ring that turns on when the hub starts up. After 2 minutes, the light turns blue and you can set up the hub. If the light didn't turn blue after a few minutes, reset the Homey back to factory settings and install it again.

Use the Homey app

Homey app

In the Homey app, you can set up the Athom Homey. Log in or create a new account. Make sure your Bluetooth connection is on. In the app, choose 'New Homey' and then 'Homey Pro (Early 2023)'. You can now set up the hub using the app. Give the app permission to find other devices near it. Connect the Homey to your smart home devices and control them all via 1 app.

Set up Flows

Set up Flows in the Homey app

With Flows, you can make your smart lights automatic. You can set these up via the Homey app or the computer. For example: the hub sees someone ringing your smart doorbell. It turns on the smart lighting at the front door. It only does so at night when it's dark out. Homey calls this the 'Else-If' system. You can set up an endless amount of processes this way.

Keep track of your energy consumption

Keep track of your energy consumption

You can find your 'Homey Energy' in the Homey app. Here, you can see exactly how much energy your connected devices are consuming. Even your smart plugs. Homey also measures the standby power of devices that are on standby or off. For devices that don't measure power, the hub gives an estimate of its consumption. You can find all consumed energy in a graph on the home screen. Do you have solar panels? You can find an extra graph with their yield. For devices with batteries, you can see their battery consumption in the Homey app.

Control devices with your voice

Connect the Homey to a smart speaker

The Athom Homey doesn't have a built-in microphone. Do you want to control your smart home with your voice? Connect the hub to a Google Home or Alexa. Use your smartphone for this or add a smart speaker to your smart home. Use your voice to turn on the lights in the living room, for example. Or play your favorite song through the kitchen speaker.

Download apps on the Athom Homey

Apps for the Athom Homey

Expand your Homey smart hub with apps. Think of apps from your smart devices, like Philips Hue or Tado, as well as Spotify and YouTube. You can add extra functions to your Flows this way. For example, set up that your favorite playlist turns on when you open your smart door lock. You can download these the same way you would for an app on your smartphone. The Homey App Store has over 750 apps.
