Compare the Samsung Galaxy S9 to the S9 Plus

On 25 February 2018, Samsung introduced the Galaxy S9 and the larger S9 Plus. Besides the fact that the screen size of the Plus version is larger, there are more differences between the smartphones. Are you curious about these differences? In this article, I'll compare the appearance, performances, and the camera of these flagships.

Compare the Samsung Galaxy S9 to the S9 Plus

Samsung Galaxy S9 Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus
Camera 12-megapixel camera Dual 12-megapixel camera
Screen 5.8 inches 6.2 inches
Battery capacity 5,000 mAh 3500mAh
RAM 4GB 6GB

Camera

These models are the first ever smartphones with a variable aperture. Is that special? Definitely. The variable aperture adjusts to any kind of light, meaning you'll always take bright photos. In addition, the S9 plus is the first smartphone from the S series with a dual camera. In other words: yet another scoop for Samsung.

The cameras

S9 camera

S9: single camera

The S9 has a single 12-megapixel camera. The camera has a variable aperture that switches between f/1.5 and f/2.4, depending on the amount of light. This allows you to capture clear photos both in low-light and brightly-lit situations. There's an 8-megapixel selfie camera on the front of the device, which allows you to make clear selfies. Do you prefer videos? Your videos will be detailed thanks to the Full HD resolution. In addition, you can make super slow motion videos with both models. As a result, you can capture every detail of a motion.

Camera S9 Plus

S9 Plus: dual camera

Thanks to the dual camera on the Plus version, you can create a depth of field effect. This is comparable to your eyes focusing on something. You can blur the background with a portrait, which makes your photos look professional. Both cameras have 12 megapixels, so you can take sharp photos with them. The selfie camera and video functions of the S9 Plus are similar to those of the S9.

Looks and performance

Put the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus side by side, and you'll barely see any differences on the outside. Yet, the dimensions of the two devices are different: the S9 Plus is considerably larger than the S9. When you compare the inside of the smartphones, on the other hand, you'll notice they differ in RAM and battery capacity.

Screen and working memory

S9 screen

S9: practical 5.8-inch screen

The Galaxy S9 has a 5.8-inch Quad HD screen. Thanks to this screen quality, you can watch videos on a sharp screen. The screen is extra large, because the edges curve into the casing. The model has 4GB RAM, which allows you to switch faster between more demanding apps like 3D games. The S9 has a powerful battery with 3000mAh. As a result, you can use it for 8 hours on a fully-charged battery.

S9 Plus screen

S9 Plus: enjoying videos optimally

The 6.2-inch screen of the S9 Plus is slightly larger than that of the S9. The extra space allows you to watch movies and series even more comfortably. The 6GB RAM of the S9 Plus is larger, which means you can multitask with demanding apps for longer without slowing down your phone. The S9 Plus has a battery capacity of 3500mAh, but lasts just as long as the S9. That's because of the larger RAM and screen.

Conclusion

The S9 and the S9 Plus have the same design, just the size is different. Yet, you can take better pictures with the dual camera of the S9 Plus and this model has a larger RAM. You also have to pay more for these functions. Are photos and videos important to you, but don't you capture images on a daily basis? Choose the S9. If you take photos every day and want them to be as beautiful as can be, choose the S9 Plus.
