Everything on Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

Ratchet and Clank have been at the top of the PlayStation rankings for years. In 2002, the first Ratchet and Clank appeared for the PlayStation 2 after the success of the platformer Spyro by the same developer. It's now more than 20 years and a dozen Ratchet games later. On 11 June 2021, Sony launched the first game in this series since 2016 exclusively for the PlayStation 5. With a focus on next-gen gaming, the developer Insomniac Games revived the formula.

Ratchet & Clank: Drift Apart is cinematic and colorful. You'll begin your adventure in the futuristic Metropolis and use weapons to fight the feared robot emperor. But Ratchet quickly appears to not be the only surviving Lombax in the resistance. You can choose from multiple playable characters, including the female Lombax from another dimension. This way, you'll learn more about the identity of these creatures while you solve puzzles in various dimensions.

You won't make it to the finish line without guns and high-tech gadgets. Each unique weapon provides a different experience, thanks to the different adaptive triggers in the DualSense controller. The vibrations are dynamic and differ per weapon. This way, you'll experience an attack with bullet differently than when you throw explosives. The destructive Shatterbomb vibrates more intensely than the Topiary Sprinkler when you shoot ice. This way, the game seamlessly matches the next-gen experience of the PS5.

Ray tracing provides natural lighting and realistic shadows. While your character runs through the city, you'll see the reflection of the light in the windows of the buildings. This way, the game world looks sharp and smooth. Does your television or monitor support dynamic 4K and HDR? Shadows and lighting will look even better. This allows you to enjoy a beautiful and detailed view while you fly from 1 dimension tot the next.

When you're ready for real fireworks, enable the 'performance mode'. This way, you'll raise the framerate to 60 fps, so you can see more images in 1 second. With a lot of action and during fighting scenes, you'll notice that movements blend more smoothly. Do you play with a headset? Thanks to the spatial audio, the game is more immersive. When you defeat every boss, the whole of Metropolis will welcome you as the savior of the universe.
