What do you do if your Sage piston machine leaks?

In this article, we'll explain what to do if your Sage espresso machine is leaking. Does the coffee outlet leak or does water spray from the group head if you make coffee? You have to replace the steam ring. We'll explain how to do so.

Replace steam ring

In this video, you'll see how to replace the steam ring of your Sage espresso machine. It's important that you replace it after a while. We'll go through all the steps with you. You can also find these steps in the manual.

  • Step 1. Prepare the machine
  • Step 2. Remove the used steam ring from the machine
  • Step 3. Place the new steam ring

You need:

  • Brush
  • Hex key / flat screwdriver
  • A new steam ring
  • Pliers

Step 1: prepare the machine

Prepare coffee machine

For the preparation, go through the following steps:

  1. Turn off the machine and unplug the connector from the socket.
  2. Let the machine cool down.
  3. Remove the bean grinder from the machine.
  4. Remove the drip tray and the water tank.
  5. Put the machine on its back, so you can easily reach the brew group.

Step 2: remove the used steam ring from the machine

Remove the used steam ring from the machine
  1. Remove all coffee residue from the group head of the brew group with a brush.
  2. Take the screw out of the brew group. With the Barista Express, you can use a hex key. With the Barista Touch and Pro, you can use a flat screwdriver.
  3. Take the silver plate from the brew group.
  4. Remove all coffee residue that's on the silver plate and the machine.
  5. Remove the used steam ring. You can use tweezers for this.

Step 3: place the new steam ring

Place the new steam ring
  1. Take the new steam ring.
  2. Make sure the smooth side of the ring goes into the machine.
  3. Place the new steam ring. You have to press it firmly, so it's placed properly.
  4. Take the silver plate and the screw and place them back.
  5. Twist the screw tightly.
  6. The job is done.
