How do you prevent moisture under your Garmin screen?

Most Garmin smartwatches are waterproof. Some moisture can still get under the screen. You can prevent it by not going from a cold bath to a hot sauna too fast. This problem often solves itself. We'll explain how to prevent moisture under your screen, what causes it, and how to solve this here.

How does water get under your screen?

Garmin watch water damage

Most Garmin watches have an ATM certification, which means they're (splash) waterproof. In the table below, you can see what a certain ATM certification exactly means. But even with waterproof smartwatches, you'll sometimes see moisture under your screen. This is due to extreme temperature changes. It happens when you step into an ice-cold bath after sunbathing in 30 degrees, for example. You can prevent water under your screen by allowing your watch to get used to temperature changes.

Water resistance

Name Resistant against
3 ATM Rain and splashes
5 ATM Swim and shower
10 ATM Snorkeling and water sports at high speeds.
20 ATM Diving (down to a 30m depth)
100 ATM Deep sea diving

How can you get rid of the water?

If there's water under your screen, it helps to go to a warm environment. The water that's in your watch evaporates by itself. Do you still see moisture or do you have more water damage? You might have a problem with the water resistance of your watch. Please contact our customer service.
