How do you descale your De'Longhi ECAM 23.460.SB?
Get started with descaling
In the video, we'll explain step by step how to descale your De’Longhi ECAM 23.460.SB coffee machine. These are the steps we'll go through:
- Step 1. Prepare the machine for descaling
- Step 2. Start the first rinse.
- Step 3. Start the second rinse.
You need:
- De'Longhi descaler
- 1.8L container
How often should you descale?
You only have to descale your De'Longhi once every 2 to 3 months, as long as you replace the water filter in time. That's because the water filter prevents a large part of the limescale. Don't have a water filter? Keep in mind that you'll have to descale your machine more often. How often depends on the hardness of your tap water and how many cups of coffee you make each day.
Step 1: prepare the descaling
- Turn on the machine.
- Open the menu with the 'P' button.
- Turn the selection dial on the display until 'Descaling' appears. Confirm this by pressing the tap.
- Press the tap again to confirm
- Remove the drip tray and coffee grounds container from the coffee machine. Empty both parts and put them back into the machine.
- Remove the water tank from the machine and empty it in the sink.
- Remove the water filter.
- Pour the descaler into the water tank up to level 'A' and fill it with water up to level 'B'.
- Place the water tank back.
- Put a 1.8L container under the hot water outlet and coffee outlet.
- Press the button with the tap-icon to confirm the descaling process.
- The machine will now start to descale. This takes about 25 minutes.
Step 2: start the first rinse

- Fill the water tank to the 'Max' mark and put it back into the machine.
- Press the button with the tap-icon to start rinsing.
- The machine will now start to rinse.
- Remove the container when the machine is done rinsing. Empty it in the sink.
- Empty the water tank after, and rinse it off.
- Place the water filter in the empty water tank.
- Fill the water tank with water to the 'Max' mark and put it back into the machine.
- Place the water tank back.
Step 3: start the second rinse
