How do you prepare your fridge for your vacation?
Get started with your fridge
With the following tips, you can enjoy a carefree vacation.
- Tip 1. empty your fridge beforehand
- Tip 2. defrost the freezer compartment
- Tip 3. make some soapy water
- Tip 4. turn off the fridge and leave the door open
Tip 1: empty your fridge beforehand
Try to eat everything from your fridge before you leave, without buying new groceries. That way, you avoid having to throw away a lot of food right before your vacation. You can also give the remaining items to your neighbors, friends, or family.
Tip 2: defrost the freezer compartment
If your fridge has a freezer compartment, it's useful to defrost this at the same time. Remove the plug from the socket and empty the freezer drawers. Once everything is ice-free, you can go on to the next step.
Tip 3: make some soapy water
After everything is emptied and defrosted if necessary, it's a great moment to clean everything properly. Make some soapy water with warm water and some neutral soap or all-purpose cleaner. You can also use a fridge cleaner.
Tip 4: turn off the fridge and leave the door open
Turn off the fridge if you go on a long vacation. You can do this with the on/off switch or the vacation mode. You can also unplug the connector of the appliance from the socket. Leave both the door of the fridge and freezer compartment open to prevent mold. Are you going away for a couple of days? A fridge uses more energy when it's completely empty. You can easily solve this by placing some bottles of water in the fridge.
