Expert review of the Sonos Ace

The Sonos Ace are the first headphones from Sonos and the brand is promising clear sound and strong noise canceling. While reviewing it, I noticed right away that the sound of these headphones is very balanced and completely shuts me off from my surroundings. You can read what else I think of the headphones in this article.

  • Thanks to Hi-Res audio, you can enjoy more details in the music.
  • With noise canceling, you'll hear less of your surroundings and can completely immerse yourself in your favorite music.
  • You can listen to your favorite music for a long time thanks to the 30-hour battery life.
  • The headphones weigh 316g, so the Ace may feel heavier on your head than the average headphones.

First impression of the Sonos Ace

Sonos headphones

Sonos delivers the Ace in a box made from sturdy and durable cardboard. I also received a protective cover made from recycled plastic. The box also contains a USB-C to USB-C charging cable and a USB-C to AUX cable.

Great wearing comfort

Comfort Sonos Ace

Thanks to their aluminum design, the headphones sit firmly on my head. They also feel very comfortable on my ears thanks to the leather ear cups. I can listen to music for hours this way.

Clear sound

When I'm listening to music, the treble, mids, and bass are all in balance. This makes rock and pop music sound very clear. The sound misses some intensity for heavier music styles like EDM or techno. Beat drops are less immersive, but they do sound clear and detailed.

Strong noise canceling

Thanks to noise canceling, I can really shut myself off from my surroundings. With most headphones, I can't hear my surroundings when I listen to music, but I can hear them when I listen to podcasts. When using the Sonos Ace, I can barely hear my surroundings even while listening to a podcast. With the button on the right ear cup, I can turn noise canceling on or off.

Simple to use app

Sonos app

I can download the Sonos app from the App Store and quickly connect my headphones to it. In the app, I can adjust the treble and bass via an equalizer. I haven't used the equalizer often, because I like the sound of the default audio profile of the Sonos Ace. I can also turn the noise canceling and multipoint pairing on and off in the app too.

Conclusion

Over-ear | 30-hour battery life | Spatial audio

If you enjoy clear and detailed sound, I recommend the Sonos Ace. I can use the headphones during long listening sessions without any issues. This makes the Sonos Ace a good choice when you're traveling. Do you like a deeper bass reproduction? Choose headphones that put more emphasis on these tones.
