Expert review of the Samsung Neo QLED QN85B
Samsung Neo QLED QN85B (2022)
- The Neo QLED image technology displays both dark and light parts very accurately.
- The 10-bit panel and HDR support provide colorful images with a strong contrast.
- The Solarcell One Remote charges through artificial light or daylight, so you don't have to buy batteries anymore.
- This TV doesn't include a Slim One Connect Box, which you can use to connect all your cables to one device.
First impression of the QN85B
The first thing I notice ont he QN85B is that it's the only Neo QLED television with a pentagonal stand. I also notice that the convenient Solar One Remote is included with this television model
Strong contrast
The Neo QLED technique should provide a high brightness and strong contrast. The QN85B has a peak brightness of 1500 nits. This is the least high brightness of all Neo QLED televisions, and you notice this. The brightest color tones don't come out as good as with other Neo QLED televisions. The bright colors of the different paint bucket do look vibrant though. The 10-bit panel contributes to this. The powerful contrast becomes really clear when I see the bright white 'Neo QLED' letters on the deep black background.
Good viewing angle
The image of the QN85B is properly visible from any place in the room. I notice this when I look at the television from different angles. The screen remains properly visible, and the colors are still bright. The QN85B doesn't have an anti-glare screen, unlike all the other Neo QLED models. Due to this, I sometimes see reflections of the daylight on the screen. But the image is still properly visible. I recommend you to not place the screen in front of a window.
Slim design
The QN85B is very thin at 27mm, and has a pentagonal stand. The stand has a different shape than the other stands from the Neo QLED series. The thin design of the television comes out best when the TV hangs on the wall. Thanks to the cutout on the back, you can hang the TV tight against the wall.
Immersive audio experience
While watching demos by Samsung, I notice that the sound follows the movements on the screen. For example, the sound follows the actors that dance from left to right on the screen. Thanks to Dolby Atmos, the sound of the television is also reflected via the ceiling. This makes it feel like the music is also playing right above my head. The Object Tracking Sound isn't as advanced as with other Neo QLED models, but still noteworthy. The other television models have more speakers, so the sound can follow the image even better.
Convenient remote
The SolarCell One Remote is included, just like with all the other Samsung televisions. This remote is very comfortable to hold. The remote only has a few buttons, but I can still easily navigate through the menu of the television. The greatest advantage of the remote is the solar cells on the back. Thanks to this, the remote charges itself via sunlight or artificial light and you'll no longer need batteries.
Conclusion
The Samsung GN85B is the starter model of the Neo QLED series. The television has a lower peak brightness than other Neo QLED televisions and doesn't have an anti-glare screen. But, it's a accessible model with a Neo QLED screen and an immersive sound reproduction. The screen offers a large contrast and the large viewing angle comes in handy when you want to watch TV with a lot of people.
