First impression of the Philips The One (PUS8807)
When I saw the television for the first time, the design of the stand stood out right away. The wide and curved stand is a real eye-catcher. Because the colors of the lower bezel are the same as the stand, it nicely looks as a whole. The television comes with a remote in the same color.
Colorful images
When I watch a nature documentary, I notice how colorful the images are right away. The television has a 10-bit panel, so it can display more than 1 billion colors. Combines with the HDR support, the images look colorful, realistic, and vibrant. The pink flamingos really stand out and I can see different shades of pink and details in the feathers of the flamingo.
A nice contrast
It gradually gets dark in the nature documentary, which makes the contrast of the television very clear. I notice that the trees at the background are very dark compared to the bright yellow light on the foreground. The contrast of the TV isn't as powerful as that of a TV with a specific display technique like OLED, but it doesn't disappoint.
Standard viewing angle
When I watch the television from an angle, I notice that I still see reflections on the screen. I can still see the images clearly, thanks to the high brightness of the TV. For the best view, I recommend to sit in front of the TV and to not place it in front of the lighting of a window.
Mood-enhancing Ambilight
The Philips television has 3-sided Ambilight at the sides and top of the TV. This way, the wall behind the TV lights up along with the colors you see on the TV. This way, the wall lights up in blue when I watch a blue sky on the TV. Ambilight clearly adds an extra dimension to the viewing experience.
Standard sound
To test the audio of the television, I put up a Justin Timberlake concert. The sound experience of this TV isn't overwhelming. For regular use like watching talk shows or other programs, the sound more more than enough. For an immersive experience with a full sound and low bass, I recommend an external soundbar and/or a subwoofer.
Decent remote
The television comes with a remote in the same color. The remote is nice to hold and the quality feels nice. The remote has buttons for popular apps like Netflix, which makes it easy to navigate. With a click on the voice control button, you can control the TV with your voice. It's a complete remote.
Conclusion
The Philips The One (PUS8807) is a complete LED TV. Thanks to the 10-bit color panel and the HDR support, this TV displays images with many details and a large color gamut. Thank to the 3-sided Ambilight at the back of the TV, you'll get a more immersive viewing experience. For a more impressive sound experience, I recommend an external soundbar and/or subwoofer.
