Expert review of the TCL C643

In this review, I'm testing the 55-inch version of the TCL C643. The TV is also available as a 65-inch and 75-inch TV. The setup went very smoothly. When I attach the leg stands to the screen, I notice that the TV is sturdy. After I switch on the TV, I go through the Google TV setup. Then, I have direct access to apps like Netflix and Amazon Prime.

The C643 has a quantum dot layer on the 4K screen and a 10-bit panel. As a result, the TV displays images with more than 1 billion, rich colors and a high brightness. I notice this right away when I watch a nature documentary. The color tones of the different flowers really pop on the screen. The C643 displays images less smoothly than the C843 due to the 100Hz refresh rate. I notice this when the camera flies across the field. Flowers and color tones fade and become blurry sometimes.

I notice that the C643 doesn't have Mini-LED dimming. With this technology, dark parts of the image are very dark. In addition, it prevents a glow around bright objects. Unfortunately, this TV does have that. The dark often appears grayish. And the contrast of the image in things like nature documentaries is strong enough. The difference between a sunny path and the shade of trees is clear.

The television has a reasonable viewing angle. I notice that the screen gets darker when I stand in front of the TV at an angle. For example, the blue water also becomes more gray.

TCL includes a clear plastic remote. It feels comfortable in your hand thanks to the slim design. I can control both the television and the Google TV smart platform. I also find it useful that I only need 1 remote for this. I can quickly open Netflix or YouTube at the touch of a button.

To test the sound of the TCL C643, I put on a living room concert. This music often highlights details, such as drums. I notice that the sound is flat and lacks bass. The sound is good enough for watching vlogs, but lacks depth when watching series. That's why I recommend buying a soundbar and subwoofer for the best sound experience.

TCL includes 2 steel leg stands for the TV. These leg stands feel sturdy and match the design of the television. I think the television has a stylish finish thanks to the thin edges. The TCL C643 stands firmly on my television cabinet. Thanks to the placement of the leg stands, I can easily place a soundbar under the television.
