First impression of the Samsung S90C
For this review, I tested the 65-inch version of the S90C. This TV is also available as a 55-inch model. I notice that this television looks similar to the S95B from 2022. The screen stands sturdy on 1 stand in the center of the bottom of the screen. One kind of image is playing on the TV: bubbles illuminated with different colors. Fortunately, I can see the advantages of QD OLED in this image.
Bright images and vibrant colors
The QD OLED technology ensures a higher brightness than with regular OLED TVs. I notice this right away when I watch an image with bright blue and green colors. The high brightness ensures the bright colors really splash off the screen. As a result, the green and blue are displayed vibrantly. At the same time, I see many subtle tones in the transition between the 2 colors. This makes the image look realistic.
Black is truly black
The screen of the S90C contains millions of pixels that illuminate and dim individually. The pixels even turn off all the way for black parts of the image. As a result, black is truly black. The shadows in the image I'm viewing are really deep. Thanks to the high brightness, there's a great difference between the darkest and lightest parts of the image. This greater contrast ensures a very realistic transition between light and dark.
Excellent viewing angle, little reflections
Just like all QD OLED TVs, the S90C has an excellent viewing angle. When I'm standing in front of the TV at an angle, all the colors are just as vibrant and the contrast isn't any less either. Thanks to this, you can easily watch TV with a larger group of friends or family without anyone losing image quality. I don't see many reflections on the screen because of the high brightness. This means you can watch television in a brightly-lit room during the day as well without being bothered by reflections.
Decent sound for standard use
The Samsung S90C has 2 speakers and a subwoofer. Thanks to this, the sound is clear and I hear the bass. When I watch an image of an airplane, I can clearly hear the noise of the wind and the bass of the engines at the same time. If you mainly watch live TV and a series occasionally, this sound is good enough. Do you want an immersive viewing experience and do you like to watch movies? I'd recommend an external soundbar. With a soundbar, the sound is more spacious and richer.
Sleek design
The pixels are the light sources, which is why the screen of the S90C is only a few millimeters thick. On the back, there's a smaller, plastic casing with all the connectors and peripherals. Due to this casing, you can't hang the thin screen flat against the wall. Do you want to place the TV on the ground or furniture? It'll stand sturdy on a steel stand that's located in the center of the bottom of the screen. This provides a sleek, modern look. The S90C doesn't have the One Connect Box that allows you to connect all your peripherals to 1 external box. The S95C does have this, which is the other QD OLED TV by Samsung.
Compact, energy-efficient remote
The Solar One Remote has the same design as last year. It only has a few buttons, but I can easily find all the settings. The menu responds very quickly and is well-organized. There's a small solar panel on the back of the remote. The One Remote charger itself via daylight and artificial light via this panel. That way, you'll never have to replace batteries again
User-friendly smart menu
The Tizen smart platform by Samsung is a clear menu where I can easily find all the popular streaming apps on the home screen. For example, I can quickly start Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, or Apple TV+. Below the row with apps, I see Samsung TV Plus programs. This is a collection of TV channels that you can watch for free with this TV. You can watch reality series and documentaries, for example. I notice that the menu responds really fast, which is great in use.
Conclusion
The Samsung S90C is suitable for you if you want movies, series, and games to look as realistic as possible. Thanks to the high brightness, the strong contrast, and the vibrant colors, all images look lifelike. The sound of the TV is less suitable for a home cinema. An external soundbar will offer a more complete viewing experience.
