First impression of the Philips OLED807
When I first look at the Philips OLED807, I notice the great, modern stand right away. The long stand with the sleek design fits in well with a modern interior. The bezel around the screen is very thin, so it seems like I'm seeing the image only. The television includes a gray remote.
Natural colors
I notice the vibrant colors right away when I watch a nature documentary. The green grass is really green, just like the bright blue water. The 10-bit color panel and the HDR support make the image look really lifelike. I recognize different tones of green in the lawn and I can distinguish various details in the clouds.
A powerful contrast
OLED televisions display a strong contrast. I notice this right away when I watch an image of the universe. The colorful globe stands out against the pitch-black universe. The OLED screen has pixels that light up or dim individually. Thanks to this, the pixels can turn themselves off. As a result, the universe is really dark. In combination with the natural and bright colors of the TV, this provides a strong contrast.
Excellent viewing angle
The Philips OLED807 has a good viewing angle, just like most OLED televisions. When I look at the screen from an angle, the image stays clearly visible. I do notice reflections of light from this angle. I'd recommend you to put the TV in a spot without light coming right at it to avoid bothering reflections.
4-sided Ambilight
-
4-way Ambilight from the front.
-
4-way Ambilight from the back.
The Philips TV has 4-way Ambilight on the back of the TV. These lights on all sides of the TV color along with the colors on the screen. For example, the wall behind the TV colors along with the blue images of the sea. This technique isn't just beneficial for the ambiance, but also provides a more immersive watching experience. The Ambilight lights are also easier on your eyes when you watch TV in the dark.
Good sound
The Philips OLED807 has a good audio system. The TV has 2 speakers and a built-in subwoofer. Thanks to this, you can enjoy the low bass too while you watch movies, series, or concerts. The bass guitar will come out better during a concert compared to without a subwoofer. This TV also supports the Dolby Atmos technique. This technique reflects the sound to your listening position via the ceiling. Thanks to this, you'll hear the plane flying across the screen fly over your head. For a really immersive listening experience, you should buy an external soundbar with subwoofer.
A complete remote
The included Philips remote is of good quality. The remote feels comfortable in my hand and feels sturdy. The layout of the remote is quite busy in my opinion. The buttons are very close to each other, which is why I often push the wrong button. I do like the buttons specially for Netflix and Amazon Prime on the remote. These allow you to navigate to content of these apps very quickly.
Conclusion
The Philips OLED807 - Ambilight (2022) is a complete OLED television. The OLED screen offers a powerful contrast with deep black levels. Thanks to the 10-bit panel and the HDR support, the TV displays images with a lot of details and natural colors. The 4-way Ambilight makes the watching experience even more immersive. Even though the built-in subwoofer provides a good listening experience, I do recommend a separate soundbar and / or soundbar for a truly immersive sound.
