Expert review LG QNED816

The first thing I notice are the colors on the screen of the LG QNED816. They really pop on the screen. For example, I see different tones of yellow in the leaves of a sunflower. The design catches my eye too. The television hangs flat against the wall at LG, so it barely sticks out. Keep in mind that the TV includes a half-round stand, but no wall mount. Most of the QNED816 is screen, because the TV has a thin, black bezel.

At the moment, the QNED816 is the only LG QNED television that doesn't have Mini-LED backlight. This is why the contrast of the TV is weaker than with other QNED televisions from the same series. This TV has Edge Lit backlight. Edge Lit TVs only have lights at the edges of the screen, so the TV can't adjust the brightness as precisely. As a result, the outlines of white clouds against a dark sky aren't as clear. The black levels are less deep too, in shadows for example.

This QNED TV combines a Quantum Dot layer with a NanoCell filter. Both techniques use tiny particles that ensure as many of the right colors as possible end up on the screen. Thanks to the 10-bit panel, the screen has a color gamut of more than 1 billion colors. I see pure, bright colors in a colorful bouquet of flowers. In a nature documentary, the colors look realistic and I can easily distinguish different tones of blue in sea water, for example

I stand in front of the TV at an angle to test the viewing angle. The colors on the screen don't change, but I see fewer details than when I stand straight in front of the TV. For example, it's more difficult to distinguish the grass blades in a field. The TV is placed in a bright room. I see my own reflection, but also other objects that are in the room. I expect the TV to show fewer reflections in darker rooms.

Thanks to the design of the television, the colors pop on the screen even more. That's because the TV has a thin bezel, so the images fill almost the entire screen. Unfortunately, I couldn't capture the stand on the photo. The television includes 1 half-round stand. This stand is dark gray, and you'll barely see it when it's placed on a cabinet thanks to the flat design. The flat design of the TV makes it very suitable for on the wall. That way, the TV will barely stick out and will fit in with your interior well.

And of course, I didn't forget to test the audio. This television has 2 built-in speakers with a total power output of 20W. The 75 and 85-inch model in this collection have a power of 40W and a built-in subwoofer. If you often watch sports games or talkshows, the audio of the QNED816 is good enough in my opinion. If you like to watch movies and series, I recommend a soundbar with these televisions. This way, you'll enjoy a room-filling sound.

The QNED816 has the extensive webOS smart platform. At the top, I see large tiles for the weather forecast, for example. I also see a lot of the well-known apps like Netflix, Disney+, and YouTube. I like the recommended content. This shows me content suitable for me based on previously watched content. That's useful, because I no longer have to search for new movies and series. The menu fills the entire screen, so I'll have a clear overview of all the apps and functions right away.

I use the LG Magic Remote to control the TV. This is a special remote, because it works with motions. When I point at the TV, a cursor will appear on the screen. When I move the Magic Remote, the cursor moves along. The Magic Remote also has a couple of shortcuts for apps like Netflix, Disney+, and Prime Video. That way, I can start binge-watching right away. If only I didn't have to work.
