Expert review LG C2 OLED TV
LG C2 OLED
- Thanks to the OLED screen, you can watch images with a high contrast and deep black levels.
- The powerful a9 Gen5 processor ensures smooth, colorful, and lifelike images.
- The webOS smart platform has a clear menu with a large assortment of apps.
- The TV doesn't have a built-in soundbar that produces a powerful sound.
First impression of the LG C2
The first thing I notice about the LG C2 OLED is the slim stand under the television. Last year, it had a wide stand. This year, the television looks like it's floating above the small, dark gray stand. And just like last year, the OLED C2 has a thin design with a thin bezel. As a result, the whole television consists of the screen and I don't have to look at a border.
Black is truly black
The OLED screen of this LG C2 consists of millions of pixels that produce colors, light up, or completely switch off individually. Thanks to the OLED EVO technology, the peak brightness is 20% higher than that of an average OLED TV. Simply put, the TV is brighter. As a result, the contrast is higher and the difference between black and white is bigger. The black background is now truly black, and the white paint on the die stands out. The images are so lifelike, that it looks as if the die are coming out of the screen.
Lifelike colors
The colors are also remarkably sharp and bright thanks to the OLED technology. The OLED EVO technology makes the screen brighter and the contrast higher. As a result, the TV has a wider color gamut than other OLED TVs. For example, I can see the subtle color tones in a drop of red paint. The new a9 Gen5 processor also improves the color representation and motion blur of what you're watching. This means that fast-moving images sharply are also displayed sharply.
Wide viewing angle and hardly any reflections
Thanks to the OLED EVO screen, I can sit in front of the TV at an angle without the image losing quality. I can still see the bright paint colors and the high contrast of the die. I also hardly see any reflections caused by the advertising lights at LG. Because the EVO screen is brighter, it glares even less than OLED models without this EVO technology. This allows you to sit in front of the TV at an angle and still enjoy the same image quality.
Small stand and sleek design
Thanks to the thin edge and slim design, the TV looks light. The slim stand emphasizes the sleek design and makes it look like the TV is floating above the cabinet. The stand is a bit low, so a possible soundbar could block the bottom of the screen. Keep in mind that not all TVs from this series have this small stand. The 42-inch model includes 2 small leg stands, and both the 43-inch and 83-inch models include 1 wide stand, for example.
Great sound
I'm looking up my favorite band for a sound check. Just like last year, this OLED C2 has a total power of 40W. The TV also has a built-in subwoofer. This allows you to listen to a clear bass in the music. Vocals are also crisp and clear. The sound is fine, but I do recommend using a soundbar for a complete experience. That way, the sound quality matches the image quality.
Extensive smart platform
The smart platform provides a full-screen overview with lots of tiles. I see my favorite apps in the 'App list' right away, at the bottom of the screen. At the top right, I can see which devices are connected. The useful thing about this platform is that you can create multiple profiles. This ensures you get personalized suggestions and that you don't get the recommended content for your partner or best friend.
Magic remote
The LG OLED C2 includes the Magic Remote. This remote is magic because you can control the TV by simply pointing at it. In addition, the remote has an NFC chip. Thanks to this chip, you can connect your smartphone to the TV by placing it on the Magic Remote. That's useful, because you can easily share content on your phone this way.
Conclusion
With LG OLED C2, you can watch lifelike images with a high contrast and lots of colors on a stylish screen. Thanks to the OLED EVO technology and a9 Gen5 processor, the image quality of the C2 is brighter and has a higher contrast than regular OLED televisions. For the real movie theater experience, I do recommend a soundbar. The sound is fine, but the sound quality matches the image quality better with a soundbar.
