First impression of the Apple iPad (2022)
When I open the box, I notice the new design of the 10th generation iPad, or iPad 2022. The home button has gone away and the black bezels around the screen are less thick. This way, the screen is larger than that of its predecessor. I also find a 20W charger and a nylon USB-C charging cable in the box. Nylon cables break less easily than plastic cables, so that's a nice improvement.
New design without home button
This starter model iPad now finally has the same design as the iPad Air, iPad Mini, and the iPad Pro. It has sleek straight edges and thinner black bezels around the screen. The home button has also been removed. You can now unlock with Touch ID in the unlock button at the top of the iPad. That takes some getting used to at the beginning.
Larger screen and selfie camera in a different spot
Because there's no home button, there's more space for a larger screen. That's why the iPad (2022) has a 10.9-inch screen and the model from 2021 a 10.2-inch screen. On that Liquid Retina display, I can comfortably watch my favorite series. When I'm in a video call, I can clearly and sharply see my contacts on the screen. You do have to get used to the fact that the selfie camera isn't on the short side of the iPad, but the long side. You have to look at the side of the iPad instead of the top when you look into the camera.
Faster processor than predecessor
The Apple iPad (2022) has the A14 Bionic chip that we know from the iPhone 12 series. This processor is 20% faster than the processor in the 2021 model. In reality, I barely notice the difference. Both models are fast. When I switch between apps on the iPad (2022), the tablet doesn't slow down. Games and series look smooth and load quickly.
Compatible with the Magic Keyboard Folio and Apple Pencil 1
Specially for the iPad 2022, Apple released a new Magic Keyboard: the Magic Keyboard Folio. It looks like a standard keyboard cover, but it also has a trackpad. This allows you to easily navigate your apps. You can comfortably type your emails and reports on the backlit keyboard. The Apple Pencil 1 (2022) also works on the iPad (2022). Do you have the very first Apple Pencil? It also works on this iPad, but you need an adapter to charger it.
Conclusion
The Apple iPad (2022) is the right choice for you if you want a tablet for everyday use. This 10th generation iPad has a new look, so the home button has also disappeared. The screen is also larger, because the black bezels around the screen are smaller. The selfie camera is in a different spot, which takes some getting used to. Thanks to the fast processor, games and series load fast and smoothly. With the Magic Keyboard Folio and Apple Pencil 1 (2022), I can get the most out of the iPad (2022). You have to buy these accessories separately, because they aren't included by default.
