Common error messages on a Canon SLR camera
Error 1: Err 99: malfunction
This message is the most common. It is a general report. The cause is as yet unknown. Turn the camera off. Remove the SD card and the battery from your camera. Remove the lens. Clean the gold contacts on the camera and the lens with a dry cloth. Now place the lens back on the camera and put the SD card and the battery back in the camera.
Error 2: Err 01: communication error
This message indicates that the camera and lens are not mounted properly. You solve this by turning off the camera and removing the battery from the camera. Then you remove the lens from the camera which you reassemble. Then put the battery back in the camera and turn the device on.
Error 3: Err 02: SD card error
This message indicates that there is a communication problem between the camera and the SD card. You solve this by turning the camera off and removing the SD card from the camera. Then clean the contact points on your SD card with a dry cloth. Put the SD card back in the camera and turn the device on.
Error 4: Err 04: SD card full
The camera no longer finds space on the SD card. You can also get this message with an empty SD card. If this is the case you must format the SD card. If there are photos on your SD card, you can remove these photos from the card.
Error 5: Err 20: mechanical failure
This message can have two causes. The shutter or aperture mechanism has a malfunction. You solve this by turning the camera off. Remove the battery and the SD card from the camera. Put them back in after 20 minutes and switch on the device.
