Image quality
QN85B: Neo QLED Mini-LED
The Samsung QN85B has a Neo QLED screen with the Mini-LED technique. This means that the screen has thousands of small LED lights that light up or dim individually. These lights are very small, which allows them to light up or dim pixels very precisely. Thanks to this technique, the QN85B displays deep black levels and shows a great contrast between light and dark. You'll notice this when you watch images of a really dark universe, for example. Together with the 10-bit HDR panel, this provides a realistic image.
Q80B: QLED Full Array
The Samsung Q85B has a different screen technique than the QN85B. The QLED screen has small LED lights that dim and light up in groups, but not as precisely as with Mini-LED. Because of this, the contrast is slightly less. The Quantum Dots layer on the screen stops distortion of light and offers bright and vibrant colors. Just like the QN85, the television has a 10-bit HDR panel. This makes the color range larger than with lower QLED series.
Processor
QN85B: Neo Quantum Processor 4K
The QN85B combines the Neo Quantum processor 4K with the Mini-LED technique. This processor is better and faster than that of QLED televisions. Thanks to this, the colors in images of the QN85A are more realistic. The processor automatically adjusts the brightness, the contrast, and the sound of the QN85B to the environment. The processor also improves the quality of the footage to a sharper quality. As a result, Full HD is converted to 4K by default.
Q80B: Quantum processor 4K
The Q80B has the Quantum processor 4K. The difference with the Neo Quantum processor 4K has mainly to do with the processing power and the image technique. Due to this, the images ont he Q80B are less smooth and not as deep black. But, the quality of the images isn't bad at all. This processor adjusts the brightness, the contrast, and the sound to the environment of the television as well, thanks to Adaptive Picture and Adaptive Sound.
Design
QN85B: thin design
The QN85B has the Air Slim Design, which is why it's only 2.69cm thick. This thin design makes the television stylish and modern. The thin design comes out even better on the wall. Thanks to this, it looks like the television hangs flat on the wall.
Q80B: slightly thicker design
At 5.47cm, the Q80B is thicker than the QN85B. The bezel around the screen is as thick as on the QN85B. Other than that, the television is very similar to the QN85B in all ways except for the thickness.
Conclusion
The image technique is what makes the QN85B the better TV. The Neo Quantum processor 4K is combined with the Neo QLED Mini-LED screen. This offers images with deep black levels and a higher smoothness than the Q80B. The QN85B also has a thinner screen than the QN80B, which makes it more stylish and modern looking than the Q80B. The Q80B is still a good choice if you're fine with a slightly lower image quality or have a lower budget.
