Sports and health
Venu Sq 2: sleep score and fitness age
The sleep score is the most notable new function on the Venu Sq 2. If you wear your smartwatch at night, you can see how long you've slept and the length of each sleep phase. Garmin then gives you tips to improve your sleep. In addition, the fitness age Garmin gives you is more accurate. It tells you whether your fitter or unhealthier than other people your age. You also get tips to improve this score.
Venu Sq: only fitness age
The Venu Sq doesn't measure sleep and provide a sleep score. You do get a fitness age, but it's less accurate and extensive than on the Venu Sq 2. In addition, the first Venu Sq has about the same functions, with some minor differences. With the Venu Sq, you can choose from 20 different sports when you track your workout. With the Venu Sq 2, you can choose from over 25 sports profiles. This makes your measurements even more accurate during some workouts.
Screen and battery
Venu Sq 2: AMOLED screen and 11-day battery life
The Garmin Venu Sq 2 has an AMOLED screen. This screen is brighter and more colorful than the dull LCD screen of the first Venu Sq. An AMOLED screen takes a higher toll on the battery, but the batttery life of the Venu Sq 2 is still better. Thanks to a larger battery, your smartwatch lasts 11 days if you don't use many special functions. The Venu Sq 2 lasts 26 hours if the GPS mode is on.
Venu Sq: LCD screen and 7-day battery life
The LCD screen of the Venu Sq is less bright and colorful than the AMOLED screen of the Venu Sq 2. The smaller battery lasts about 7 days. With the GPS mode on, the battery runs out after about 14 hours. So you have to charge the Venu Sq more often. You can do that at night, but then you won't be able to measure your sleep. If you want to wear the Garmin Venu at night, you have to plan when you charge it.
Smart functions
Venu Sq 2: music optional
The Venu Sq 2 doesn't have any new smart functions. Just like with the first Venu Sq, you can choose from the standard model and the Music version. On the Garmin Venu Sq 2, you can download up to 500 songs via Spotify or Deezer. You can listen to it via your smartwatch during your workout, so you don't have to take your smartphone with you.
Venu Sq: few changes
The Venu Sq and Venu Sq 2 both have a built-in GPS sensor. This means that you don't need your smartphone to track your distance during your run or bike ride. You can also make contactless payments with your smartwatch via Garmin Pay. In addition, you can see notifications on your app. Unfortunately, you can't answer incoming calls.
Conclusion
The Garmin Venu Sq 2 has a better screen than the Venu Sq, and the battery lasts 4 days longer. In addition, the Venu Sq 2 gives you a sleep score and improved fitness age. So if you want more accurate health measurements, choose the Venu Sq 2. The only disadvantage is that the Sq 2 has few smart functions.
