Design and screen

Apple Watch 7: larger and brighter screen

The screen of the 7th generation Apple Watch is slightly larger than its predecessor. The black border around the screen is 20% thinner than that of the Apple Watch Series 6. That means that you have more space to read your messages from the screen. Even when you're inside and the Apple Watch is in rest mode, the screen is 70% brighter than that of the Series 6.

Apple Watch 6: round edges, smaller screen

The design of the Apple Watch 6 is almost the same as that of previous models. The screen is a bit rounder than the one of the Series 7. The black border around the screen is bigger than the border around the screen of the Apple Watch 7. That means that you have a bit less space to read your health data or texts.

Sizes

Apple Watch Series 7 sizes

Apple Watch 7: 41 and 45mm

Since the Apple Watch Series 4, the size of the Apple smartwatch has stayed the same, until the Apple Watch Series 7. The Apple Watch Series 7 is available with a height of 41 and 45mm. That means that the Apple Watch Series 7 is 1mm larger than the Apple Watch Series 6 in both sizes. The watch straps for the Apple Watch Series 6, SE, 5, 4, and 3 still fit on these new sizes.

Apple Watch 6: 40 and 44mm

The Apple Watch Series 6 is available in 40 and 44mm, just like the Apple Watch SE, Series 5, and Series 4. The watch straps of the Apple Watch Series 3 are suitable for 38 and 42mm, so they also fit on the Apple Watch 40 and 44mm. That means you can use your older Apple Watch straps for your Apple Watch Series 6.

Health functions

Apple Watch 7: adjusted bike profile, saturation monitor, ECG, and fall detection

The Apple Watch Series 7 has an adjusted bike profile that now automatically recognizes when you're biking. Do you bike on an e-bike? The Apple Watch Series 7 will calculate how many calories you burn more accurately than before. Just like the Series 6, the Series 7 also has a saturation monitor that measures the oxygen levels in your blood. With the ECG heart rate monitor, you can make cardiograms directly from your wrist. This way, you get an image of your heart rhythm. The Series 7 also has fall detection, just like its predecessor.

Apple Watch 6: saturation monitor, ECG, fall detection

The Apple Watch Series 6 has a saturation monitor and an ECG heart rate monitor, just like the Series 7. The saturation monitor provides information on the oxygen levels in your blood. The ECG heart rate monitor gives you an insight in your heart rhythm. Fall detection makes sure you're always safe. If you fall down and don't respond for some time, the Apple Watch will send a message to your emergency contacts and the emergency services.

Accessories

Apple Watch 7: USB-C charging cable, the same watch straps

The 7th generation Apple Watch includes a USB-C charging cable. That means that the USB-A adapter of your older iPhone or Apple Watch doesn't match the charging cable of this Series 7. The watch straps that fit on the Apple Watch 38 and 40mm also fit on the Apple Watch 41mm. That also counts for the Apple Watch 45mm. Straps that are made for the Apple Watch 42 and 44mm, also fit on the Apple Watch 45mm.

With the Apple Watch Series 6, you'll get a USB-A charging cable. You can simply use it with the USB-A adapter of your smartphone or older Apple Watch. Apple Watch straps for 38 and 42mm also fit on the Apple Watch Series 6 40 and 44mm.

Conclusion

The new design makes the Apple Watch Series 7 a worthy successor to the Apple Watch Series 6. Don't you need a new design and larger screen? Don't you need a custom bike profile? The Series 6 is a good choice for you. Do you want a bigger and brighter screen? Choose the Apple Watch Series 7.
