- How important is contrast to you?
How bright should the image be?
We express the brightness of a projector light in ANSI lumen. The more ANSI lumen, the brighter the light. For a lit room, choose a projector with a high light output. Projectors with more than 4000 ANSI lumen are suitable for bright rooms. For a dark room, a lower light output is enough. Projectors with less than 1000 ANSI lumen are only suitable for very dark rooms. In brighter rooms, it's difficult to see the images.
Which throw ratio do you need?
The throw ratio determines how far away from your wall or projection screen you can place the projector. Do you use the projector in a small space? Choose a short throw projector. You can place this between 0.36 and 1.1m from the projection surface for a 1m wide projection. You place a regular throw projector at least 1.1m from the projection surface. These projectors are suitable for larger spaces, such as a larger living room.
How sharp do you want the image to be?
We also call the sharpness of the projector the resolution. The more pixels, the sharper the image. For movies and series, we recommend at least Full HD. Full HD has 1920x1080 pixels and provides sharp images. Want the sharpest images with the most details? Choose a 4K projector. This resolution has 3840x2160 pixels. Wide XGA projectors have a lower resolution of 1280x800 pixels. As a result, images can look blurry.
How important is contrast to you?
The contrast ratio indicates how large the difference is between the brightest white and deepest black. The larger the contrast ratio, the more subtle color differences the projector displays. A projector with a high contrast ratio displays many color details in dark scenes. As a result, you're fully immersed in an exciting movie. Projectors with a low contrast ratio are mainly suitable for presentations. Movies and series look less colorful and realistic.
