  • Tip 1. Don't mix longer than 1 minute.
  • Tip 2. Be careful with the ingredients you mix
  • Tip 3. Assemble the parts properly.
  • Tip 4. Place the blender on a cloth.
  • Tip 5. Clean the blades by hand.
  • Tip 6. Clean the blender with water and dish soap.

Tip 1: don't mix longer than 1 minute

Mix with blender

Blenders are relatively small appliances with a lot of power. That's why it's important you don't use the blender for longer than 1 minute at a time. The high power can cause the blender to overheat. If you do use the blender for longer than 1 minute, you'll have to let it cool down for 1 minute as well. That way, you can be sure you'll get to enjoy your blender for even longer.

Tip 2: be careful with the ingredients you mix

Mix ingredients

Is your blender hot or smoking? The blender is overheated. Turn off the appliance, remove the plug from the socket, and let it cool down for 1 hour. In addition to not mixing longer than 1 minute, it's important to mix hard ingredients a little bit at a time. Potatoes or beans, for example. Finally, the order in which you mix ingredients is also important. Start with putting liquid ingredients in your blender, then soft ingredients, and put in hard ingredients last.

Tip 3: assemble the parts properly

Assemble the blender

Is your blender leaking? You probably didn't assemble it properly. How you assemble your blender differs per model. That's why you should find the manual of your product and reassemble it. In many cases, the problem is the rubber seal ring. It might be put on incorrectly, lacking, or broken. In those last 2 cases, you'll have to buy a new one. Many manufacturers sell the seal ring for their blenders on their website.

Tip 4: place the blender on a cloth

Blend

Blenders generally don't make a lot of noise. If they do, the noise is usually caused by the vibrations that resonate through the countertop. If you're bothered by this, we recommend placing the blender on a cloth you've folded in half and not placing it too close to the wall. The cloth absorbs the vibrations, so they don't resonate in your kitchen. That way, you keep the vibrations from echoing through the countertop, the wall, or the kitchen cabinets.

Tip 5: clean the blades by hand

Clean blades

The sharper your blades are, the better the result they provide. To ensure your blades last long, we recommend you wash them by hand. Are the blades dull? Cover them with uncooked rice by filling up the blender and turn the blender on for a couple of minutes. The hard grains of rice will sharpen the blades. If this doesn't work, there's no other option but to detach the blades and use a blade sharpener.

Tip 6: clean the blender with water and dish soap

Rinse

Some blenders are dishwasher-safe. If it's not, this is how you can clean it:

  1. Rinse the blender under the faucet after use.
  2. Fill it with hot water up to one third of the pitcher and add a bit of dish soap.
  3. Turn on the blender at the lowest setting for a couple of seconds and increase the speed.
  4. After half a minute, you can rinse the blender.
  5. Leave your blender out to dry upside down on a dish cloth.
