Pros and cons

According to our keyboard expert

  • The keyboard has PerfectStroke keys, which were made for your fingertips and make every keystroke feel smooth and responsive
  • The keyboard backlight adjusts itself automatically to the ambient light, and it lights up when your hands get close.
  • Just like the MX Master mouses, you can connect the MX Keys to multiple devices at the same time and switch between these devices with the push of a button.
  • If you want to use the mouse and keyboard optimally, you need external Logitech software.

Description

Work fast, comfortably, and efficiently on the Logitech MX Keys S Gray. The keys are shaped to your fingertips, so you can type quickly and smoothly. It's also silent, so you can concentrate on you work. The keyboard backlight only turns on when your fingers get close to the keys, just like with its predecessor: the MX Keys. This new model adjusts the brightness of the light to the ambient light. You can also connect the MX Keys S to up to 3 devices via Bluetooth or with the included Logi Bolt receiver. That way, you can work on your Windows laptop, MacBook, and iPad at the same time. Switch devices with the touch of a button. You can get the most out of your MX Keys S with the Logi Options+ software. Set up shortcuts, light settings, and connect it to your Master 3S mouse.

A nice keyboard, but with areas for improvement

  • Nice keystroke
  • Quiet
  • Very well made in terms of quality
  • Moderate legibility of keys in daylight

I first bought the graphite version of this keyboard, but the letters, numbers and characters on the keys are completely illegible in daylight, i.e. without backlight. So unusable. Moreover, when it gets darker I always have room lighting on, so backlit keys are not really a necessity for me. The graphite version was exchanged for this gray version. Here the legibility of the keys is slightly better, although it still doesn't really matter. The Mac version of the MX Keys keyboard is much better in that regard in particular. A big plus of this keyboard is the very pleasant and quiet keystroke. In addition, the keys are large enough and spaced far enough apart to minimize typing errors. The keyboard is suitable for both Windows computers and Macs. I use this for my Windows PC. If you choose Bluetooth as a connection option, installation is fairly simple, although it still requires some manual steps. The disadvantage, however - at least on my PC - is that every time I start my PC, I get a 'keyboard error' from the BIOS software. Apparently the Bluetooth connection is not yet active and you cannot access your BIOS settings without a keyboard. I just don't know why you would even want that. I therefore exchanged the stable Bluetooth connection for the wireless connection via the included Logitech USB dongle. That installation didn't go very smoothly either. The instructions provided by Logitech did not work for me. Only after I pressed one of the three pairing keys on the keyboard did a screen appear that allowed me to pair the keyboard. Fortunately, the 'keyboard error' at start-up is now omitted. Another thing about the keyboard lighting: fortunately you can simply turn it off if you don't need it because you always have sufficient ambient lighting. So handy! Other things I've come across so far: - You have to charge more often than I expected and than indicated - The included charging cable (USB-C > USB-A) is much too short (1 m), which is difficult if you have your computer under the desk. That's why I used my own cable. In short, a nice, but not perfect keyboard. There is clearly still room for improvement in this S series.

  • Nice
  • No Windows symbol

No cables and a proper device. Sturdy and beautiful, you can easily slide it away, it makes little noise while typing and is a valuable addition to a cable-free desk.
