When the battery is almost empty, you can turn on Playtime Boost in the JBL Portable app. You can extend the battery life with 3 hours this way.

Nice handy box for that

I think it is a great speaker, but for better sound quality I would go for the flip I think it will give a slightly better sound. The hook on the clip 5 is really great, especially on the water in the boat, it can't get lost, that's a real plus.
