Tefal Easy Fry Grill & Steam XXL FW2018

This is my first real airfryer and then also a 3 in 1! This Tefal can fry like the best. And with the pre-programmed programs you don't have to worry about all kinds of complicated buttons. Just adjust the time and start, with tasty crispy fries, bitterballen, etc. on the baking grid in 8 minutes. The steaming works fine, only there is, at least I didn't discover it, no possibility to dry the steam tray after use, and I personally find that a bit special. I see moisture in the tray and over time I fear it will lead to unsanitary bacteria. I have submitted this question to Tefal, I have yet to get an answer. Grilling also works perfectly with the included grill grate. The manual could be a bit clearer, which is better for me, I'm not very visually oriented and there are no answers to certain questions, such as about the creamer. The large appliance (larger than expected) has a very large capacity, and is an asset to the kitchen. I really do recommend it!!

The 'manual' for this product consists of an A5 sheet with a few cryptic pictures. So you have to guess a lot about what each symbol and picture means. Should the fries be frozen or not?!? I had defrosted fries and they were already on the edge after 15 minutes while the airfryer wanted to continue for almost 10 minutes. Because I checked often, the fries were otherwise fine. A lot less fat (had added some oil) but also not as you are used to from the old-fashioned deep fryer. You can get over that and everything tastes great with satay sauce or mayo. The snacks were fine... ready fairly quickly too, but here too the guesswork is what the right time will be. Even when grilling meat, the manual is too limited... so you first have to gain experience in how it should all be prepared. You will have to keep a note or database for yourself about the correct function and time for each piece of meat that you often buy. I also tried steaming some vegetables... in my case cauliflower. How much water does it need? How much cauliflower is in it? how long should he steam? nothing to do with those pictures without text. Fill container... fill water... select function/gamble. Switch on... after 15 minutes done... but the cauliflower still too hard... so again... again 10 minutes... just not yet... again... and so I was half rummaging around for hours while my meat and potatoes on the hob were long done... Cleaning with the water from the steam tray is also a gamble, based on the picture and the A5 symbol. I think I did it right, but water continues to come out of the tray into the baking tin after switching off. Furthermore, the tray is quick and easy to clean. According to this site, the individual parts can go in the dishwasher. In practice, this is only the loose grid in the baking tin, but according to the manual, that is not allowed in the dishwasher either... I think you can read it from the picture. The odor filter surprises me in a positive way. The appliance is so large that the extractor in my hob can't do much about it, but I hardly noticed any cooking smell in my kitchen... Conclusion: A few more lines of manual is really necessary to be able to use the (not cheap) device properly. The size of the device also means that it cannot stand somewhere in a deserted corner of your kitchen. So every time you have to drag the entire device out of the closet or storage room. That makes daily use a lot more difficult. If you have a good oven, you may wonder what this appliance adds. In addition, this site states that the outside of the device remains cold, but that is not true. It gets pretty hot, although that goes away pretty quickly after switching off... in any case, it doesn't quite match reality. For me personally, the steam function was the reason to purchase this device. No other air fryer offers this. Because my oven, in addition to steaming, can actually do two of the three tricks, the appliance adds too little to my kitchen. That's why it was sent back. If you have more time (and especially inclination) to dive into this and you don't have a good oven, I would recommend trying the device, if only because of the steam function.
