Description

The Canon EF 70-300mm IS II USM is a telephoto zoom lens for your Canon SLR camera with EF mount. You can use this lens for various types of photos, from portraits to nature photography. A built-in AF motor allows you to zoom in and out faster without losing focus. The zoom and focus in this lens are silent. As a result, you won't scare off animals with the focus sound and you won't hear it in your recordings either. Thanks to the built-in image stabilization, you can capture sharp photos up to 4 stops out of hand. The Ultra Low Dispersion element in the lens prevents distortions both in the image and the colors.

Handy zoom lens that allows you to take sharp photos

  • Spirit level on top of the lens indicates whether you are holding it straight
  • Compact size is easy to take with you
  • Image stabilization reduces motion blur
  • Fairly heavy in combination with a light camera

The lens feels sturdy and is not extremely heavy for a zoom lens. I take sharp hand-held photos, even when I zoom all the way in with the lens. This is due to the built-in image stabilization. If you use the lens for a longer period of time, you will notice the weight. In that case I would bring a tripod. The operation of the lens is very smooth. On top of the lens is a screen to which you assign a setting. A handy feature, I think, especially if you're shooting from a low angle. I test the lens on the Canon EOS 850D. Sharp handheld photos If you zoom in far with the lens, small movements are more visible. Still, I take very sharp hand-held photos at 300mm. The image stabilization reduces my hand shake, so I don't need a tripod. Still, a tripod can be useful, because I find the lens to be quite heavy after a while. It is then more difficult to keep the lens still. Despite that, I still take sharp hand-held photos. Weight of 704 grams I just mentioned that I find the lens heavy after shooting for a long time. Still, with its 704 grams, this lens is not heavy for a zoom lens. It also depends on which camera you use the lens on. In combination with a light camera body, the lens is relatively heavier than on a heavier camera body. Maybe it's a matter of getting used to it. Smooth operation Zooming and focusing with the focus ring is easy. This makes the lens pleasant to use. The focus ring has little resistance, with a small turn of the ring the focus already changes. I like this for accurately determining the focus. Zooming is also smooth, I quickly switch from 70 to 300 mm and back again. This way you can also quickly capture a moving subject. Screen at the top On top of the lens is a small LCD screen on which I see a setting. This is especially useful when shooting from a low angle. For example, I see the focus distance or the movement indicator. The motion indicator resembles a spirit level. I like that to see if I'm keeping the lens and camera straight. I can see if the horizon is straight in frame and if I have tilted the camera and lens forward or back.
