Samsung HW-Q800D (2024)

The sound of the Q800D is quite good. The sub is a bit hazy, and I don't think there is any Atmos. The top speakers send the sound in terms of direction to the TV, which is hanging above it, so it doesn't come to me via the ceiling. And does Atmos only work with Samsung TVs? I can't set it anywhere. The sound via the Apple TV is much better than the sound that comes in via Ziggo. The Ziggo box is set to 5.1, but has at most radio quality. So this Samsung can't be blamed for that. Still, the sound comes too much from one direction, I hardly experience stereo, and certainly no Atmos. The app is handy, but doesn't give you many operating options.

This soundbar replaces our old surround system, which was large and sometimes complicated. In terms of sound, this soundbar is a bit less, but still very good. Low tones are perfectly present thanks to the wireless sub. The app gives the possibility to easily operate the functions, which compensates well for the somewhat small display on the soundbar. It was a matter of connecting hdmi-arc/tv to the hdmi-arc/soundbar and it was done. Satisfied with this soundbar.

Feels great after a week. For music, a major adjustment in the settings is needed. The Sub not in a corner, set to -6 and a cap in the bass port. Equalizer to make it sound more neutral here: from low to high: +5, +4, +2, -2, -4, -2, -2. The easiest way to do this is in the app. The app tries to access more information than is necessary for the function, so you have to throttle it yourself. A more extensive manual can be downloaded.
