Ceiling range hood: what do I need to keep in mind?
Placement
You mount a ceiling range hood onto the ceiling, above your kitchen island. It has a couple of advantages to mount it in this spot.
- You won't bump your head while cooking.
- The range hood doesn't take up a lot of room and doesn't draw attention.
- You can place the range hood right above the kitchen island, so all the cooking fumes will neatly leave your kitchen.
- Thanks to the size, you can also mount the appliance above cooktop or stove with 5 or 6 burners.
Installation
Building in a ceiling range hood is difficult. That's why we recommend you to ask a mechanic to do this instead of doing it yourself. Want to do it by yourself anyway? Keep in mind that this type of range hood always needs a niche width of 90cm. A ceiling range hood isn't flat, but has a motor block on top. That's why it's important to carefully check the height of the range hood on the installation drawing. That way, you'll be sure it fits in your kitchen.
Drain system
Most ceiling range hoods are suitable for both a ventilation system and recirculation. The exhaust ventilation system is more powerful, causing your range hood to exhaust at full power. You'll need extra accessories in both situations:
Exhaust ventilation system: you need an exhaust ventilation pipe with the right diameter. This varies between 12 and 15cm. Check the product page to see which dimension you'll need.
Recirculation system: for some range hoods, you just need carbon filters. Certain brands work with a recirculation set. On the product page, you can find what you'll need for your range hood.
Controls
A ceiling range hood is mounted on your ceiling, which is often high. That's why you can't control it with buttons or sensor buttons, like you can with other range hoods. Most ceiling range hoods include a remote. This allows you to easily select the right extraction rate or set the lighting. There are also a couple of models you can control via an app on your smartphone or tablet. You'll have to install the app for this.
