5 tips if your wireless charger doesn't work
Solve problems with wireless charging
Try these solutions if your wireless charger isn't working properly:
- Tip 1. Place your smartphone in the center
- Tip 2. Check if your case interferes with charging
- Tip 3. Connect your charger with the correct adapter
- Tip 4. Only use the special holder for smartwatches
- Tip 5. Check if your smartphone supports wireless charging
Tip 1: place your smartphone on the charger properly
If you don't place your smartphone on the charger properly, your device won't charge. The wireless charger has a charging coil, which is a metal circle with a diameter of about 4cm. Your smartphone has a similar coil. Only when these two coils are exactly on top of each other, will your smartphone start to charge wirelessly. A charger for 1 device has a charging coil in the center. Wireless chargers for multiple devices often have a symbol to indicate where you should place your smartphone. You're sure your smartphone is placed properly when a light goes on on the charger and your smartphone indicates it's charging.
Tip 2: check if your case interferes with charging
Usually, you don't have to remove your case from your smartphone, but some cases cause problems. Cases thicker than 3mm can cause interference, just like cases with metal. For example, do you have a case with a magnet or with a magnetic sticker on it? Wireless charging won't work. The exception to this are iPhone cases with a MagSafe magnet. Those are specially designed for wireless charging.
Tip 3: use the right adapter
Wireless chargers only work properly when you connect them to the socket with the right adapter. For example, the Apple MagSafe wireless charger charges your iPhone slower if you don't use a 20W Power Delivery adapter. The Samsung 15W wireless charger only works with a Samsung 25W adapter. The right adapter is almost always included. Isn't this the case? Don't just use any adapter that you have, but check what you need.
Tip 4: charge smartwatches in a holder
You can only charge Apple and Samsung smartwatches wirelessly, not the watches of other brands. You have to attach them to a special brand-specific holder. Don't just place them on any random wireless charger. There are 2 types of holders, one for the Apple Watch and one for the Samsung Galaxy Watch. Make sure you have a wireless charger with the right holder for your smartwatch. These holders have a cutout to magnetically click your smartwatch into.
Tip 5: check if your smartphone supports wireless charging
Didn't the other tips help? Check if your smartphone supports wireless charging. All iPhone models from the iPhone 8 supports wireless charging, but older iPhone models don't. The Apple MagSafe charger only works properly with the iPhone 14, 13, or 12. Smartphones from the Samsung S and Note series can charge wirelessly, but devices from the Samsung A series can't. Do you have a different smartphone, or do you have a problem with earbuds? Search the internet to check if your device supports wireless charging.
