You consume less energy with district heating or block heating, because a central heating systems heats multiple houses. You save even more with a smart thermostat. In this article, you can read how you choose the right thermostat for your district heating here.

What's district heating or block heating?

With district heating or block heating, your house receives heat via a central heat network. The heat goes to multiple houses from 1 central heating, via underground pipes. With district heating, this is residual heat from factories for example. Houses with block heating share 1 boiler of heat pump. District heating and block heating are very similar.

Can you connect a thermostat directly to district heating?

No, this isn't possible. You don't have your own boiler or heat pump. To add a smart thermostat to your heating system, you need a district heating valve. Already have a regular thermostat at home? You can replace it with a smart thermostat. If you only have radiators, choose smart radiator knobs.

What's the best thermostat for district heating?

Tado thermostats work best with district heating. With the Tado smart radiator knobs, you can control your radiators. Choose a starter pack and multi-zone expansion if you have floor heating.
