How do you solve problems with the keyboard of your laptop?

Having problems with your laptop keyboard? Keys that don't respond properly or no longer respond at all, for example? There are solutions for this. In this article, you can read 5 tips to solve problems with your laptop keyboard.

If your keyboard isn't working, these 4 easy tips will help you:

Tip 1: reboot your laptop and remove accessories

Tip 1: reboot your laptop and remove accessories

You can solve most problems if you reboot your laptop. Doesn't your keyboard work? Reboot your laptop.

  1. Do you have accessories such as an external keyboard connected to your laptop? Disconnect it.
  2. Press and hold the on/off button for 10 seconds.
  3. Wait until your laptop is fully turned off.
  4. Boot your laptop again.

Tip 2: clean your keyboard

The biggest cause of keyboard problems is dirt. There are often crumbs or other small things hidden under the keys, which prevent them from working properly.

  1. Turn off your laptop or the keyboard.
  2. Hold your laptop upside down and shake the dirt out from under the keys.
  3. Clean the keyboard with a cloth if necessary.
  4. Doesn't a specific key work well or not at all? Loosen it with a flat screwdriver or a small knife.
  5. Do you have a loose key? Clean the area under the key. Do so carefully so you don't damage the key.

Tip 3: check the driver

If the previous tips don't work, check the driver. There's a good chance that something is wrong with the settings.

  1. In the taskbar search box, find and click 'Device Manager'.
  2. Click 'Search automatically for updated driver software' and then select 'Update driver software'.

Didn't that help? Reinstall the driver.

  1. In the taskbar search box, find and click 'Device Manager'.
  2. Locate the keyboard in your driver.
  3. Right-click on the name of your keyboard and select 'Remove'.
  4. Reboot your laptop. The driver will now be reinstalled.

Tip 4: remove hidden devices

Does nothing happen when you press a key? Turn off the laptop.

  1. Press the on/off button and the 'esc' button at the same time.
  2. This opens a start menu. Isn't the menu opened? The hardware of the keyboard doesn't work. Contact the customer service.
  3. Press F10. You'll end up in the BIOS.
  4. Press F5. You now load the standard settings. Press F10 to accept the changes.
  5. Reboot your laptop.
  6. Search for 'Device Manager' in Windows and click 'View'.
  7. Choose 'View' and go to 'Show hidden devices'.
  8. Click on the arrow next to 'Keyboards'. Then click the right mouse button and choose 'Remove'.
  9. Your keyboard should work now.

Tip 5: have your laptop repaired

Did none of these tips help? There's a big chance the keyboard is defect. If that's the case, we recommend to have the keyboard repaired. Please contact our customer service, so we can help you.
