3 ways to expand your Sonos system

With a Sonos speaker, you can listen for hours on end. But the experience only begins when you have more than 1 speaker. If you wirelessly connect multiple speakers to each other, they can play the same song at the same time. There are 3 ways to ensure your speakers synchronize the sound reproduction. You can choose from a multi-room, home cinema, or stereo setup. We'll tell you everything about it on this page.

1. Create a multi-room setup

Create a multi-room system

With the Sonos multi-room system, you'll be playing the same song in different rooms. Place up to 32 speakers throughout your home and connect them to each other wirelessly via WiFi. The Sonos app gives you full control over each speaker, no matter where you are in the home. In addition, you can control the multi-room system with your voice via the integrated Google Assistant in a Sonos One or Sonos Beam. You can send music to a separate speaker, or let each speaker play the same song at the same time. You can adjust the volume for each room, though. Throwing a big party where your guests aren't only in the living room, but in the kitchen or hallway as well? Everyone will still be able to listen to the same playlist.

2. Listen to a powerful stereo sound

If you place 2 speakers in one room, you can easily create a stereo pair. Because the speakers reproduce the left and right signal separately, you can listen to clear stereo sound. For the best sound experience, place the speakers 1.5 to 2m apart and point them to your listening position. You can place the Play:3 and Play:5 speakers both horizontally and vertically. The Play:5 speakers automatically detect the way they're placed and adjust the sound reproduction to it. A horizontal placement ensures a wide sound distribution. With a vertical placement, you send the sound to a specific spot. Your listening chair, for example.

3. Improve your TV's sound

With the Playbar and Sub, Sonos provides a powerful soundbar and subwoofer. If you combine these with 2 Play speakers, you can create a powerful 5.1 setup. The speakers play the sound of your TV at the same time, but filter it so each speaker reproduces a specific part of the frequencies. The Sonos Sub only plays deep bass tones, while the Playbar focuses on vocals and effect. The Play speakers ensure sound comes from all directions in the room. Because the speakers are synchronized, movies and games sound clear and lifelike.

Sonos Boost & Connect

In addition to speakers, Sonos has different components to amplify or expand your Sonos system. The Boost allows you to create a powerful wireless network, while the Connect ensures you can add every speaker to the Sonos system. Even your grandfather's vintage speakers.

If your WiFi network isn't strong enough for an extensive multi-room setup, go for the Sonos Boost. With this signal booster, you can create a separate network for your Sonos speakers. Because the sound isn't disrupted by signals from other wireless devices, your music always sounds clear. You won't be bothered by white noise, disruptions, or stuttering sound. The 3 antennas of the Boost distribute a powerful signal that travels through floors and walls. As a result, you can easily stream music to every room in your house.

Sonos Connect and Connect: Amp

Still have an old speaker set at home? Add them to your wireless Sonos system with the Sonos Connect. This way, your speakers get the same streaming and multi-room options as any other Sonos speaker. You can choose between the Connect and the Connect:Amp. You can connect the Connect to active speakers or to the reveiver of your HiFi set. If you have a passive speaker set, connect them to the Connect:Amp with a speaker cable. This product has a class D amplifier than sends 55W to your speakers.
