Image quality
908: OLED EX MLA
The 908 has one of the best OLED screens available. Thanks to the deuterium material, OLED EX can better withstand heat. As a result, it's brighter. You also get a Micro Lens Array layer. These micro crystals combine the light in the TV for even more brightness. That allows you to watch lifelike images with more contrast. You're less bothered by reflections and the colors on your TV remain clear, even in bright lighting.
808: OLED EX
The 808 has an OLED EX screen without a Micro Lens Array layer. This means the brightness is lower than the 908, but higher than a regular OLED screen. The brightness and contrast are lower compared to the 908, so you get less lively images. The image quality also gets worse if there's a lot of ambient light in the room. The OLED EX is still a bright OLED screen, which provides a good image quality in rooms with low lighting.
708: OLED
With the standard OLED screen, the 708 is a level below the 808. You do have all advantages of OLED. Every pixel can light up and dim individually. As a result, black is truly black and you don't see a glow around bright objects. Compared to the 808 and 809, the screen is sensitive to ambient light in the room due to the low brightness. Sometimes, details can disappear in very bright scenes. When the sun shines on a logo on a piece of metal, for example.
Sound quality
908: Bowers & Wilkins 80W
The 908 has a built-in Bowers & Wilkins soundbar. This soundbar divides 80W of audio over 6 speakers and a subwoofer via 3.1 audio channels. The TV has a lively and powerful sound. That way, you can listen to room-filling sound with bass. You feel every punch when you're watching a superhero movie. This also means you don't need an external audio system in the room. You can simply play live concerts and Spotify on the TV.
808: 70W with subwoofer
The 808 has an audio system designed by Philips. The audio system divides 70W over 4 speakers and a subwoofer via 2.1 audio channels. You need at least the 48-inch model for the 70W system, the 42-inch model has a 50W version. The sound of the 808 isn't as good as that of the 908, but it's still good for a TV. At a high volume, you do notice that the bass of the soundtrack sounds a little pinched.
708: 40W without subwoofer
The 708 also has an audio system designed by Philips, but nu subwoofer. The TV sends the audio to 4 speakers via 2.0 audio channels. Because there's no subwoofer, you're not fully immersed in the music with this TV. You don't hear much of the bass guitar in rock songs and electronic songs also sound a little flat. Talk shows sound clear with the 40W, but we recommend a soundbar if you also listen to music or watch action movies.
Conclusion
With the 908, you enjoy the best image and sound quality. That's because the 908 has an MLA layer in addition to the OLED EX panel. Thanks to this layer, you're less bothered by ambient light and you don't lose details in bright scenes. The 908 has a built-in soundbar, which makes the TV suitable for every usage situation.
