Expert review of the Samsung Q95T QLED TV
Samsung QLED Q95T
- Thanks to the QLED screen, bright colors pop off the screen and you can see subtle color tones as well.
- The high brightness and deep black levels provide a powerful contrast.
- The wide viewing angle ensures that the image quality doesn't deteriorate when you watch the TV from an angle.
- With the One Connect Box, you keep all wires and devices neatly out of sight.
- This television doesn't support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.
First impression of the Q95T
It's very easy to set up the Q95T, partly because of the One Connect Box. You connect this box to the socket and to your devices, such as your Blu-ray player and console. Then you connect it to the TV with a single transparent cable. On the back of the TV, I find 4 HDMI connectors. One of these supports HDMI 2.1. This way, you can use new HDMI technologies like eARC and VRR and you can send 4K content with a refresh rate of 100Hz to your TV.
High brightness and bright colors
One of the unique features of the Q95T is its high brightness. As a result, you can easily watch TV in brightly-lit rooms without the image becoming poorly visible or the colors disappearing. Together with the QLED screen, this brightness ensures that colors really pop off the screen. In film mode, the brightness is lowered a bit and colors become softer, so dark movies look good as well. Unfortunately, the Q95T doesn't support Dolby Vision, so you can't enjoy movies with this HDR format to their full extent.
Powerful contrast with good black levels
Thanks to the Full Array backlight, the Q95T has deep black levels. This technology allows the LED lights that are spread out along the back of the screen to light up or turn off individually. As a result, dark parts of the screen are truly dark. Together with the high brightness, this provides a deep contrast. You'll get bright colors and deep blacks in the same image. For example, I watch a scene taking place at night in a movie with deep shadows and the bright neon lighting stands out strikingly.
Wide viewing angle, sometimes reflections from bright lights
Samsung has covered the screen of the Q95T with 2 special filters. The first is an anti-glare coating. And indeed, I don't see a lot of reflections on the screen in the brightly-lit room where I'm testing this TV. Not even when I watch dark images. The other filter provides the so-called Ultra Viewing Angle. This layer improves the viewing angle of the screen. When I watch the TV from an angle, I hardly notice any loss of contrast. The colors remain clearly visible as well. This is a nice addition if you often watch TV with a larger group of people.
Good sound with 2 subwoofers
The Q95T has 2 speakers and 2 subwoofers. As a result, deep bass sounds are clearly audible as well. I mainly notice this when I watch a movie scene with loud music. And when I turn up the volume, the sound barely gets distorted. This way, you get a good viewing experience when you're watching an exciting movie without soundbar as well. One downside is that this TV doesn't support Dolby Atmos. This technology reflects sounds to the viewer via the ceiling for a more spatial audio. Televisions from other brands in this price range do support this technology.
Stylish design with the One Connect Box
The Q95T has a sleek and modern look. The stand is stylishly designed as well and holds the television securely in place. The screen is fairly thin. The back of the TV looks calm and smooth, because there aren't any ports thanks to the One Connect Box. You can tuck the transparent cable that runs to the box neatly out of sight in the TV stand. The One Connect Box itself is quite heavy, but it does look smooth and stylish from the front as well.
Never a blank screen with Ambient Mode
Just like every other QLED TV released this year, the Q95T has the Ambient Mode. This mode lets use the screen for extra atmosphere when you're not watching TV, so there's no black screen taking up space in the room. When I look through the Ambient Mode, I notice that there are a lot of options to fill the screen. For example, you can choose from art, landscape photos, or screensavers that indicate the time and weather.
Sturdy and handy remote
The Samsung One Remote that is included with the Q95T has a sleek design and a beautiful metal finish. Thanks to the luxurious materials, the remote feels sturdy and pleasant as well. There's a microphone at the top that I use to quickly find YouTube videos with a voice command. I find 3 buttons for streaming platforms at the bottom, namely Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Rakuten TV. This way, you can access these apps with the push of a button to stream your favorite movies and series.
Conclusion
The Samsung Q95T is an extensive 4K QLED TV that offers an impressive image quality thanks to its high brightness and QLED screen. When it comes to sound, the TV doesn't disappoint either. The deep bass is clearly present and the sound doesn't get distorted at a high volume. The One Connect Box and the striking design of the TV make the Q95T a stylish solution for your interior as well. Unfortunately, the TV doesn't support Dolby Vision and Atmos. That would have made the movie theater experience complete.
